  1. What to buy?

I'll chime in. I've had my ION for a year now. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't. Too many issues to list. At this point I don't want a new one, I want this one gone. I'll add that Gerber Tech has been johnny on the spot, if there's an issue, the techs are quick to show up...
  2. Hi, from Mesquite, Texas

Welcome from Wisconsin... We print plot maps for our county on a regular basis. I like using Sihl 200gm Solvent paper. On the Sihl site it's called "3686 TriSolv PrimeArt Paper 200". You can print nice sharp images on this paper and no need for lamination, unless it's going outside for an...
  3. What can I do with an Epson Stylus Pro 7800?

Great printer for the fine art market, Ultrachrome inks last forever indoors. Outdoors, you'll still get a couple of years. I started my shop with a 10600, same inkset. Used coated vinyl and laminated absolutely everything. Bumper stickers, door magnets, small signage, etc. No wraps or...
  4. Quick Rant

Those are the same people that go jogging at night in navy blue sweats and wonder why they almost get mowed over every now and then...
  5. Best RIP software for MUTOH

I agree, Ergo PosterPrint is fantastic. Shiraz V6 is a good rip as well, I used it for a couple of years on my 2 Epson 10600s for fine art. Tons of well done print environments on the AIT website, most of them for Euro standard/available materials. Still, I wouldn't trade my Ergo RIP for any...
  6. enVision 375 Problem

I had the exact same problem with an Envision 375 and tried all the advised remedies, new cut strip, new knife holder and oiling. After a few phone calls with our Midwest tech, I ended up replacing the whole carriage assembly. When you take the cover off of the carriage assembly, move the...
  7. Any wholesale "Router" Guys around?

Mobile, Try Plastic Services, Inc. in Hartland. They're off of 83 just north of Delefield in the Hartland industrial park. They're a fairly large thermo-form company with 17 5 axis CNCs and plastics are what they do. I used to run they're Graphics Division and now that I have my own company...
  8. Advise Please Roland vs Mimaki

Urban Image: I can't disagree with you more. I have a JV3 and an HP 8000 and find myself turning more and more to the 8000. I would hardly call the HP crap. Running the 2 machines side by side is the only way to make a fair judgement. The 8000 is a very capable machine IMHO.
  9. HP 8000sr Any comments

I've had my 8000s since July and am very happy with this machine! Great color gamut, easy to maintain and HP quality. I've profiled fabrics, cast vinyl, banner stock, calendered vinyl, mural material, even .020 white styrene and all look fantastic. Speed is slightly better than our JV3 and...
  10. New finishing guy

Go Pack!! Yeah baby. Welcome from SE Wisconsin. Donny
  11. Cut-Through Plotter? from a Noob

Half Cuts Mimaki CG cutters as well as the higher level Summa cutters both support a "half cut" option. I had it demonstrated to me at the Summa booth during the 06 ISA show. Pretty slick feature. Weed it and punch out the individuals. Not a super clean edge, but I can still see where it...
  12. Hello

Well, I'm not quite a Newbie, I've been in printing for 23 years. I started screening t-shirts then got a union apprentice gig in offset and did that for 15 years. I started playing with an Encad Pro 50 about ten years ago (talk about a learning curve) and the digital bug stuck. Since then...
