Maybe its your laminator? We have a very budget friendly US Tech, and I don't think we've ever ruined a print, not even when we didn't know exactly what we were doing. it just works.
thanks, i am hoping for something a little nicer, but you are right, this is an excellent economical sign. i'll give them this option along with hopefully something else.
not sure yet, it depends on the bracket. I think i want something more substantial than U brackets though. They just redid the facade of the mall, so it needs to be a good combination of nice and cheap. ha.
I need to make some non-illuminated, ceiling-mounted signs to go under a walkway at a strip mall. They will be approximately 4ftx1ft. I know I can make a standard cabinet box, but I'm hoping to do something more economically.

duh. yeah, this is really easy and you don't need a cnc router like I thought. you can cut the letters with a jig and/or bandsaw and then using a hand-held router, bevel the edges. we bevel the edges on signs all the time!
I would classify that script as "handwritten." Many of the LHF are designed specifically to look like they are handwritten.
AND the font/typeface argument is so silly in 2016. We aren't hand-setting our type. We aren't grabbing 14pt Helvetica Bold out of a drawer. We don't say "What the...
I don't have a thermal printer, but i'd actually guess those were screen printed.
I don't screen print either, but I'm pretty sure you can get translucent ink, which would show the flake through.
In our experience, ALL metallic vinyls fail within 2 years. We use Avery for the most part, and have experienced the vinyl having burn marks. I think it has to do with how the sparkly flakes react when the sun hits it.
here too. literally had to get an engineer's drawing for this exact scenario. i forgot who I used, but there is actually a company who specializes in sign drawings, and it wasn't that expensive... however, a dibond sign is pretty cheap in the first place.

It's done with careful measurements, masking tape, and a specific paint. Logos are done with paintmask stencils.
