We do use Advantage and the belt was under warranty, so now I have to figure out if we can install it or just have them do it. If it doesn't come with instructions we might be better off paying for the labor charge.

Thanks for the replies. I just wanted to know if it was normal wear. It's still under warranty and has worsened since my first post, so I'll have to get it fixed before it snaps on its own and we're out a plotter a few days.

It's not melted. A whole section of it has a uniform crease. Some parts apparently creased too much and have taken the appearance of hangnails.

Has anyone else had a problem with their Mimaki plotter carriage belt? The section that feeds into the left housing is all mangled on the bottom. I think it's riding low on whatever gear or pulley that it's traveling on in there. We've had it less than 2 years and it just recently started...

It did! We just had a similar problem 5 mins. ago, so we looked at all the Mac/PC boxes after searching here. Ours stemmed from the wrong box being checked when a rendering was scanned using a Mac, to be printed using a PC. Excellent use of the subject line, by the way. :thumb:

I purchased the combo blades and they seem to be the solution to my problem. The factory blades seem to get exponentially duller at the beginning and then stay dull for a while until they just go bad. I put in these new blades from Clean Cut Blade a while ago and they're still sharp. I'm not...

What is the combo blade? On our old Graphtec, we used a blade that had a more acute angle to it than the "General Vinyl Blade" from Mimaki. The problem is that the serifs on smaller letters stick straight up after they are cut.

Does anyone know where I could get blades for the Mimaki FX series of cutting plotters that aren't "General Vinyl" blades? The one that came with the plotter lasted a lot longer and was better for fine-cutting than the ones from the factory via Advantage.

Thanks for the responses. My boss decided to go ahead and get the Mimaki. We went to another shop and saw one in action. They had the older 160S, so there were less fans, but I was impressed by the low odor. Unless you were right on top of it you couldn't smell a thing.

Okay, so I've been searching this site (which has been a tremendous help) and as far as I can tell, the only real reason for picking a Roland over a Mimaki is that Roland has excellent tech support. Is this the only major reason? I'm asking because my boss is thinking about getting the Mimaki...
