  2. Gilders tip....now what?

Signmeup..... I use the 1 Shot fast for the small ones and I have some old lead based from Kurz and Partners for my 12hr+ jobs. I guess one uses what best meets their own needs. In my case I actually speed up the dry time with the 1 Shot with their speed dry UV clear.......but that's...

  4. Gilders tip....now what?

There are a lot of situations where gold leaf is used and each has it's own different applications...... That said, application in dimensional situations has a few realities that are different from glass work. One, whatever application tool you use to get the gold to the job, the gold will...
  5. Gilders tip....now what?

It is the greese......not static electricty. So if you have oily hair, that will work. The oil along side the nose will work too. Some will put a line of Chap Stick on the back of their hand and swipe the tip over it. You don't have to do it after every leaf.....one or two swipes will...

  7. Clear over artists acrylics?

Thanks for the great info!!!! Dan, if you get more info from your friend, that would be great. What I have done in the past is to mix artists acrylics with the mixing base of laytex house paint.....with no clear. It seems to hold up pretty well but it's not in a demanding location (mostly...
  8. Clear over artists acrylics?

I've learned that there are shops that will paint images and reliefs on thier signs with artists acrylics and then clearcoat. Is anyone familar with this? Does it work and how long will it hold up? Would 1Shot acrylic clear work. IF it works.......it would be a great option. Thanks in...
  9. Food Bank sign destroyed

What a shame to see such a beautiful sign and an even more beautiful gesture, on your part to make this donation, come to this end! A suggestion for the repair and strengthing......after glue-up, route a 1/4" slot where the gold line is now in the center and another under the bottom line...

  13. My "Other Job".....continued

Thanks guys...... Doug.....you made me shudder.....and not in a good way! ;) I rejected that idea a very long time ago.....cause: 1. It would have to be painted....ergo it would look like plastic. 2. The fine detail would be lost. 3. Undercutting would be minimal. 4. You...

If you didn't follow my "Chez Moose" thread here is a piece that I produced as a limited edition of 50. All White Pine, no sanding and all the colors are transparent stains......this one is 17"x21". My "Other Job" is carving decorative relief scenes.....mostly country and wildlife themes...
  15. great idea...really bad sign

It has been my experience that this happens when someone badly under estimates the production time for the sign and is franticly taking shortcuts at the end so that they don't loose their shirt.$$$$$$$$$ OPPPPPS I have occasionally under priced a piece but I would NEVER compromise the product...
  16. 1 shot not drying

I always add some low temp reducer and about 10% hardner. Dries in about 3-4hrs at 50 degrees. Joe, Makin Chip$ and Havin Fun!
  17. Blonde buys a sign........

"Last year I bought a very expensive, dimensional sign for my hairdressing shop. This week I got a call from the sign guy who made it. He was complaining that it was installed a year ago and still hadn't gotten paid for it. Helllooooo? Now, just because I'm a blonde, that doesn't mean...

  19. Need Help with ClearCoating Please!

If you want to clearcoat over acrylic laytex, you can use 1Shot Speed Dry Acrylic Clear. Spray or brush.....always best to do a test first. Remember, all the advice you get here is worth every penny you paid for it. Test first! OH, when you say you are painting with acrylics......are you...
  20. Where did Sarge go?

Chris, You are absolutly right!!!!!! What lights me off is when he offers his expert advise to someone who DOES want to "make a living at this." Advise from clueless.............................great. And then they say, what I do, is dying out. Really nice guys, like Sarge, aren't...
