You are not kidding! I am not so sure that I would limit that to newbies either. I have seen many "pros" from many industries do some really hair-brained things!
That is the whole purpose of calibration and profiling.
Customers will expect and understand color degradation "over the long term" in regards to exposure. They will not accept or expect different colors at the time of initial output. Remeber this is for repeatred runs NOT one-off banners...
Yes, it all matters. For a one-off a person can get away with it. For repeat orders, especially over long term, it makes all the difference in the world.
Kirk - With all due respect..
....sounds more like a sympton of the lack of color calibration between the design station and the printer. Do not make to many changes (if any) unless you are certain of your color calibration.
We charge a minimum of $50, usually $100, anytime we need to add a photo to a job. We just explain copyrights etc to the customer. The customers only alternative is to supply us with a photo that they have personally taken.
StockXpert has some of most lenient licensing there is.
Black ink has a tendency to do this (the green tinge). The reason is usually due to the saturation level (loading) of the black. It varies from machine to machine, including ink batches. It is extremely annoying and noticeable with BW prints.
Jackpine's suggestion could be one solution, but...
Unless your friend is in the business of vinyl graphics - they will not know.
You have a wealth of free information here on this forum. Start reading and researching. Use the search function for any questions that you may have, and you will most likely find all of the answers you need - as...
The busier you get - the bigger the client - the bigger the dollar amount. It is called the business "float" - and a fact of being in business. Having "zero" receivables is just as bad if not worse than to many receivables.
It all depends on the equipment located between the shoulders, ie: brain and heart.
There is money to be made, and about 3 million directions a business can profitably evolve. What this business is NOT - get rich quick.

Aaah - The infamous deals on CD's loaded with fonts! Zoom in as close as possible and you will find that many that are meant to be smooth (either straight or curved) are just jagged as hell. Some are meant to be this way, most are not.
Being that you are new new to cutting vinyl, this is...
Not so sure Sky. Although we never have and never will, slamming Roger seems to be a national pastime (on forums)...and I even actually think he (Roger) loves the extra publicity. ALL publicity can have a positive effect if you put the right spin on it - which I think Roger has expertly done...
Chris -
1. You can definitely OC these newer machines. Do some reading and see what they do nowadays. Much of the OC'ing depends on the proper matching of the motherboard/cpu/memory.
2. The dual-core depends more on your want/needs to upgrade later. New software is coming and they will be...
2 pairs (1GB x 2 and 512mb x 2) on an ASUS P5WD2. We did not go for 4GB because it would not do anything with XP. By the time we make the switch to Vista (current software limitations) this machine will get handed down, except for the SCSI.
For a long time now.
Actually DDR-800 is PC6400...
These files must be HUGE. There may not be a solution for you yet, other than trying to limit or minimize your file size. As you know, XP has its memory limitations. Vista is different in that aspect, but also has a greater memory requirement to begin with.
Does versaworks run on XP yet...
Are you replacing or adding a machine? The reason is that both machines that you mention are not really useless antiques, although you did not mention the remainder of the configs.
