  1. Crazy concept

Are the selling ampersands or pizza and cookies?
  2. Crazy concept

What are the two smiling circles with measles? That notwithstanding, the combination of pizza and cookies is sufficiently insane that it requires something equally insane on any sign they might use. I have no idea at the moment what that might be but I do know it's not an image of a pizza...
  3. Arch Distort in Flexi

Don't use the arch, use the one down there at the bottom that looks like a banner and has curved sides. That's one of the few distortion envelopes for which you can move each point independently using the control [or is it the shift?] key. You can straighten out the sides and by manipulating...
  4. I received I small picture I have to scale a lot...

Hard to gainsay such an incisive legal mind as yours but, nonetheless, you might want to familiarize yourself with the difference between a criminal and a civil matter.
  5. I received I small picture I have to scale a lot...

Pixels are not lost when an image is made larger, only when they are made smaller. When an image is enlarged you have to add information that does not exist. There's two ways to do this; simply make each pixel larger or interpolate the existing pixels to create the new information out of whole...
  6. colored mdf

Why would anyone want to screw around with anything plywood? Use Alumalite or Nudo board or whatever's available in your village. Synthetic laminates will last through the next ice age. Plywood, even plywood with Al on it, is figuring a way to come apart from the moment it's made.
  7. I received I small picture I have to scale a lot...

A tort, not a crime. Big difference.

Round two: Excellent except for... The yellow ampersand overpowers the white main text. Perhaps it should be white or even a pale blue. Even if it were white it's one of the largest elements on the design. Dial it back a few notches. Likewise the yellow ribbon. Everything else on this design...
  9. Brutal critiques welcomed...

Regardless of decoration, the the main text on the bottom example. If you bend title copy, bend it up, not down. But do something with the 'and' on this version. It's in the wrong place and its bend seems to be discordant with the bend of the title text.
  10. Long live arlo!!!

Let's see if I have this right. It's okay for someone to proclaim the effectiveness of their gods and their prayers to them but it's unacceptable to express anything antithetical to that. Is that how it works?
  11. Long live arlo!!!

Nonsense. Prayers are never answered. It they were the external reality would be chaos. It's not, ergo mewling petitions to one's gods are either unheard or ignored. Smart money is on the former since the latter requires the existence of some agency to do the ignoring.
  12. Mixing Vinyl brands on t-shirts

The times and temperatures give for various thermal material are ball park minimums. You can crank it up a bit for most any media with no ill effect. But if you're really worried about it, do the high time and temperature media first then do the lower time/temperature media. That way you're...
  13. Do You Kern?

Eons ago in a print shop far far away, I believe there was a drawer or two containing notched pairs, apparently from the foundry. As I recall, no one had ever used them for anything, they were a curiosity. They just sat there in that back of the building amid stacks of trays of old wood type...
  14. Do You Kern?

True, with some fonts in some faces. Almost always in larger point sizes of Roman faces and more of a rarity than common place, I can't recall when last I saw a type drawer with notched characters. Other than some with extreme extensions of such elements as the tail on a 'Q', the leg of an 'R'...
  15. Do You Kern?

A theory is a sufficiently tested hypothesis that serves to explain some phenomenon or another. 'Theory' does not equal 'rules'. Moreover a theory must be stated in such a way that anyone might understand it, confirm it, or falsify it. If a theory is not falsifiable, it's not a theory. It's...
  16. Do You Kern?

Kid, when I give an opinion it is clearly labeled as an opinion. When I state a fact, I'm pretty damn sure it's a fact or I would qualify it. I was setting type and doing typography, properly I might add, when your parents and the parents of the staff of your college design department were...
  17. Do You Kern?

Merely because you can do something does not mean that you should nor does it make it typographically acceptable. Violate the type body at your own peril. Being able to slide characters wherever you want them is not license to do so. Every time I see one character gratuitously violate the...
  18. Do You Kern?

Adjusting negative space, or any other flavor of space is one thing, having one character invading the space of a neighbor is quite another thing. If they taught you that the latter is acceptable typography there at the Butera Sign School, this is prima facie evidence that they don't know their...
  19. Plotter Blade Angle

True. but the difference in length of contact edge between a 45 and a 60 degree blade on 2mil media is ~.0003. That's 3 ten thousandths of an inch. That's about 12% more blade edge [on any thickness of media] with the 60 degree blade versus a 45 degree blade. More edge, but is it enough to make...
  20. Do You Kern?

If the animated rabbit, as well as the legions of the mindless, had said "If you can't say something, don't say anything at all." it would have played better, don't you think? That there's a special hell for people who attempt to fend off criticism by drawing that lame phrase notwithstanding...
