Play around with your heat settings and see what you get. Try a few different test prints.

I don't keep any scrap vinyl laying around, I would just use what I have in stock.

If you are on a limited budget I would suggest outsourcing the printing for a while. Don't jump into printing if you are not sure if it will be a money making option. I was in the same situation as you as I'm sure a lot of us here were at one time.

We use mostly Oracal but we have recently used some of the Vector vinyl from Beacon with good results so Vector is looking to be a good option also.
