  1. Print Data Error with Onyx 7.3.2 on Windows 7

From experience this kind of error usually has to do with your data type settings in your printer setup. Make sure it's the right one for your printer type. eg 9100 for HP5500s, escp for Epsons etc Are you sure you used the same settings on your new install?
  2. Trying to decide on a printer size!

I sometimes get customers ring up and say "what's the biggest you can print??" So I got a 74" Roland. I hardly ever use the full width but it's great for those "biggest banner" jobs. I wouldn't go less than 54".
  3. Actual Text Message with new employee.

That's funny. I just hope his work ethic is as strong as his sense of humour.
  4. Norton 360 will get my boot up there you know what

I got rid of Norton on my work PCs last year and replaced it with ESET and have never looked back. You don't even realise it's running until it wants your attention (very rarely). Norton is a resource hog and is hard to remove from a PC. I think from memory I had to download a special...
  5. What happened to this banner?

Looks like careless handling to me. There are areas where the ink looks like it's been scuffed by dragging across something. And the creases may be from folding when ultra cold. Ask them if they've been taking it down.
  6. Laminating Long Runs... Problems...

I have a Seal Image 62 Plus. On long runs of wide (60") vinyl wrinkles will happen. I found the best way to avoid these is to stay on top of the feed - and exert pressure on the vinyl with my hands, pressing out from the centre, keeping the vinyl taut. A bit hard to describe. Maybe there is...

Have you got a birthday coming up OldPaint?
  8. Signs101 - Is it just me....

I visit mainly to check out equipment issues, & if I can be of help to someone I'll toss my 2c in. This isn't the friendliest forum I've been on but that doesn't bother me.. I have friends elsewhere. I have noticed there's a fair bit of posturing from people who fancy themselves as arbiters of...
  9. Thoughts about Mentoring newbies...

There would have to be something in it for me otherwise why would I? The n00b should offer some cheap labour at the very least otherwise why would an established business train up potential competition.
  10. Grrr.

Don't you guys use the printers measurement? My soljets and HP5500s keep track of length, I always write it on the roll before unloading.
  11. Foamcore vs Gatorfoam...

As already stated Gator's a bit more durable and less prone to warp. But cheapskates will nearly always go for the cheaper option. I tell them foamcore will be fine if it's fixed to something flat along all areas at the back, and isn't likely to take a knock. 9 times out of 10 they accept...
  12. I was in 6 car pile up... a rant!

Look on the bright side. Could have been much worse Arlo. This is me a month ago on a nice Sunday ride. Choppered to hospital with broken leg, foot and hand. But no spinal, head, rib, pelvis or knee damage. I'm still able to type one handed.. some of my unkind friends have suggested I've...
  13. Sewing a banner Hem

Haha you hit the nail on the head there GB2.. Personally I use banner tape.

  16. Profiling...Been At this for a year, no luck

Yeah if you only have the one Roland best off using Versaworks to print as it does most things an expensive rip does and it's free. I use Onyx but use it to run 5 different printers and a cutter.
  17. Profiling...Been At this for a year, no luck

Turning ICC profiles off will print without adjusting colours in your file, using only linearisation. Therefore 50% cyan in your file is printed as 50% cyan and not adjusted to what that colour 'should' be. Usually gives you brighter colours and I use it a bit for people who just want nice...
  18. Profiling...Been At this for a year, no luck

You seem a bit confused with the whole input and output profile thing. Just think of profiles as an 'interpretation' to go from one device to another. See the image attached. When an image is created in say Photoshop or a scanner it is assigned a profile so another device will know how it...
