I have two also. When I started printing the solvent printer options were lo res and expensive.
You can do signs with them, with the right media and laminate.
Spend the extra and get a Soljet or similar. You'll wind up having a more versatile more profitable business.

To answer your question, when you print a PDF or Eps file that uses pantone colours the rip picks them up and uses the predefined pantone table to give more accurate colour. I usually find these a little dark to be honest and...
I have a Summa D120SE and it is awesome. Tracks and cuts really well. OPOS too for cutting printed decals.
I also have a real old Graphtec FC2100 which served me well for a long time. I still have it for a backup.
Print and cut on separate machines if you can afford it.
What's the ink life on those new Epsons? I heard only 18 months.

My 745EX is coming up to 4 and a half years years old and I've tossed the idea around too. My local Triangle rep even said forget it unless you're doing the volume as it's harder on the machine.
