  1. Where can I find Stock Photos Online?

What do you plan to do with the images? $50 is cheap for stock photos and, from my experience, they're really not good for more more than web pages. But, here are a few sites... office.microsoft.com/clipart/ www.bigstockphoto.com www.comstock.com www.gettyimages.com Checkers
  2. Owner /Employee

Hey Marlene, There may be consultants or others that are in related industries that don't make signs. An example could be people that are investigating the sign business that don't work or own a shop yet and they're here to learn :) Checkers
  3. Owner /Employee

I picked other! I'm an employee of the corporation that my wife and I happen to own. The pay sucks and the hours are long, but I'm havin' fun :) Checkers
  4. Do you have a DVD drive on your design computer.

I bought into the DVD thing shortly after getting into digital printing. My old 667 mhz computer has a floppy, zip and dvd drive. When most large format job files averaged 400 megs, it became difficult to back up completed jobs and the related info onto 1 CD. So, DVDs were the next logical step...
  5. Font management on a local network?

Hiya Steve, I've had limited success with this. I think most of the problems occur when you're moving fonts from one computer to another, or to a central location. The other issues occur when the font source is not accessible. This is how I had the most success with the fewest issues... If you...
  6. Font help can these be bought?

I've never seen this one before, but I've seen similar as true type fonts. Do you have the original Illustrator file before it was converted to a PDF? Or, if it was anoter file type before that, you can sometimes read the info contained within the file coding to track down the creator. Checkers
  7. New computer

Hiya Bill, Whatever you buy, just make sure you can get support for it. Downtime bacause of computer issues can be quite costly. I really want a MAC, but I don't have access to local tech support resources that can get me back up and running when it crashes. And it's not a question of "IF"...
  8. Need help!

Did you try renaming the file to "whatever.EPS" and try importing it that way? My guess is that it's probably a CS2 file and your software can't recognise it or the file is corrupted. Checkers
  9. Color and print quality problems.

Hiya Mike, Profiling is the key. Not only do you have to profile your ink and media, you also need to profile your monitor and software. Without taking these steps, color matching and proper printing is a crap shoot at best. Visit the link below to take a class on proper profiling. I.M.H.O., its...
  10. Is $1395 a good price for a used Gerber hs15?

Hiya Brian, What do you plan to use it for? For vinyl cutting or contour cutting edge prints? Do you already own another Gerber plotter? If it's in good working condition, you have the software to run it, and it comes with all the standard accessories, then yes, it's probably a good deal. Like...
  11. SandMask

Hiya Brian, Gerber's equipment is very good, so I don't see any reason why the plotter can't cut sandblast mask. Just be sure to use the 45° or, ideally 60° blade. No pun intended, but the 30° won't cut it :) I've used the older Gerber 15" plotters to cut just about everything. I prefer the...
  12. the best mouse for graphics

If you're looking for accuracy, a mouse can't compete with a graphics/drawing tablet. There are several brands available, but Wacom seems to be quite popular... http://www.wacom.com/index2.cfm They take some getting used to though. Here's a couple of links to discussions on them at another site...
  13. What kind of plotter should I buy?

I don't think you shoud buy a plotter until you work a minimum of 10 years in the sign business learning about the all the different plotters, software and materials available to you. Also, during your 10 year training program, you must read all the books available in the Signcraft library and...
  14. Are your fonts legal?

Hey Doug, here's a good link for currency conversion... http://onlineconversions.com/currency.php
  15. Are your fonts legal?

Another good read/link from the site... http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/05/03/reward_for_whistleblowers/ "The Business Software Alliance has doubled its maximum reward for people who report the use of unlicensed software within UK businesses before the end of June. Staff can report their...
  16. storage ideas (capacity?)

I'm with Bobby H on this. If you're serious about wide format printing, your tech is probably on the right track. When I worked for a trade show display manufacturer, we had a similar system from Dell. At any given time, we would have about 100 gigs of active jobs on our server and a typical job...
  17. Need a font Identified please!

It looks a lot like tahoma too but the Y is the joker :) Try this link... http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/microsoft/tahoma/morelikethis.html Checkers
  18. HP Vs Kodak(Encad)

Hiya Felix, I have a fair amount of experience with the older Encads and the produce quality graphics for tradeshow and POP displays. Encads may not be the better quality printer, but service is there when I needed it. I can't pass judgement on HP's commercial support. However, I can tell you...
  19. Cutting software for Summa

I use the cutting software that came with my Summa. It may not have all the bells and whistles as some of the other programs, but it does what I need it ti do. The Newer Onyx software supports print and cut and it should drive just about any (real) plotter on the market. I never used it to cut...
  20. First post: information and question....

Hiya Felix, The newer solvent and eco-solvent printers are great for high resolution and fade resistant prints, but the color gamut is, i.m.h.o., still weak when you compare them to the epsons or other aqueous inkjets. Did you check out http://www.large-format-printers.org/ yet? They charge for...
