  1. pricing for installation of dimensional letters

Like has been said, the surface material makes a huge difference. We did a set of letters on a drivit (stucco) wall. Two years later they decided to do a rock veneer. The price to remove and reinstall the letters was as much as the original job. And I should have charged more- the rock was crap.
  2. Discussion Pricing your print/jobs/installs >>MEGA Thread<<.

I got a headache reading this. I still do my quotes on paper. For a small shop doing custom work simple still works.
  3. Question IS GRIMCO LIKE THIS WITH EVERYTHING?

This is why I try to purchase from the "local" full line sign suppliers I've used for 30+ years (Garston and Nepco). I use national suppliers for items I can't get locally (Grimco is good for traffic sign blanks). But I also have back ups that are "local" companies like Beacon, Hyatt and Hall...
  4. Routing grooves in 4x4 wood post

We use a dado in the table saw. But a router works fine, and I would do a few passes increasing the depth. You can get an inexpensive router table which makes this and many other routing jobs easier
  5. Reflective vinyl on a boat

    Yes, we've done several
  6. Bas Relief Plaque Policy Issue/Screw-Up

At first I thought you were talking about a $1K dispute, so it's $80.00? I'd eat it. Trying to get a bureaucracy to change a PO will be painful and they may be gone as a future customer, but if you make it painless for them they will be back. I've had these experiences with municipalities and if...
  7. What is Signs365?

They are good for certain products, but there are some others that have more personalized service like Wyld GFI in New Jersey
  8. One man shop growing pains

Do you like making signs? If you do keep looking for an assistant, eventually you will find someone who enjoys the wide variety of work involved in a small sign shop. And at the same time raise your prices, it's how capitalism work, supply and demand. If you're not losing bids you're too cheap...
  9. Permits for Window Signage

"Around here it was the police department pushing for the limited window coverage because they want to be able to see into the store in the case of some nefarious activity going on in the store." Another BS excuse, so you cant cover a window with signs, but you can put blinds, or the backs of...
  10. Permits for Window Signage

They tried to restrict it here, but it was unenforceable. What if a store has a bunch of advertising posters that cover more than 50%, are they going to make them get a permit?
  11. Add shine to sign foam??

I agree with the design suggestions. There are several ways to add "shine". The acrylic would work with studs. The epoxy suggestion is interesting, I've seen tuturials on it but never tried one. You could use real gold film, I'd suggest the Florentine texture., that combined with resin for the...
  12. Crane Below Bucket, Why??

We had a used Hi Ranger that came from a utility company. It had a jib. With it one man could install transformers. Might look for something like that
  13. Thoughts on wall printers?

I haven't done a direct screen on a wall in at least 20 years. Hated it then and wouldn't want to start again now, never liked screen printing of any kind. Maybe it's changed but the inks & solvents were nasty. But, it isn't really hard, it's just that you only get one shot to get it right. And...
  14. Suggestions Lexan Sprocket Punch-Outs Causing Intermittent Streaks Through Prints

I don't think it's those circles of lex, I get them too and never caused a problem. I think they would make a bigger mess and some noise if they got stuck on the roller. Sounds more like some other contaminant. When we got our Edge the salesman also installed & trained us. He was adamant about...
  15. Thoughts on wall printers?

depps, you do have a good point about those client who insist on lettering without vinyl. We have dealt with them, only a couple of museums that I can think of. And I have done the screenprint on a wall, its sucks, you only get one shot. It would be a really small market and unless you are in an...
  16. Need Help Where to buy aluminum sign blanks like this?

Yep, if it's only a few a jigsaw is all you need.
  17. Thoughts on wall printers?

I see issues...two guys to haul and set up a machine to print a mural that would take one guy an hour to install. Then there's durability, laminated murals have a layer of protection that direct paint wouldn't. Then like d fleming said, what happens if the machine has a hiccup? Repaint the wall...
  18. Supply Chain Issues

My suggestion would have been to try an auto paint supplier but sounds like that's a dead end too.
