  1. is my blade shot?

If you think you need a fresh blade, you do. Since you seem to be having troubles with the pick up/set down you might want to blow the dust and crud out of your tool carriage paying special attention to the up/down mechanism. You also might want to put just a dab of silicone grease on the tip...
  2. Contour cut problems

Not in this universe. The media thickness does not effect X length. This is one of those things that 'everyone knows' but it's wrong. The top of the media travels exactly the same distance as the bottom of the media regardless of thickness. The media travels flat through the feed mechanism...
  3. Contour cut problems

3/100's, less than 1/32, of an inch is considered hitting right on in most shops. I'm surprised you can measure it that accurately. I figure anything less than +-1/16 is a raging success. Priority mode, manual or program, should have no effect on contour cutting. My priority mode is always...
  4. VJ 1204 - How do I replace the rubber wiper?

It just pull it out. Hold the wiper holder down and pull straight up. Sometimes a little hook made out of a paper-clip is handy to pull up from the bottom. There's a little hole in the wiper that fits over a tab in the holder. Once you get the old one out it should be clear how the new one goes in.
  5. How long should the print sit before laminating?

Perhaps but dry is all it has to be for lamination. 'Cured' can mean whatever you want it to mean but solvent inks dry via evaporation, just like lacquers. Not like enamels which spend their entire existence curing.
  6. How long should the print sit before laminating?

Outgassing is the bogeyman you use to scare your kids. When the ink is dry to the fingertip drag test it's dry. Usually less than an hour. Laminate away.
  7. Anybody make a good core flange?

Replace it with the flange with the big threaded wheel like the on that's on the other end of the media rod and/or the take-up reel. I went through a number of those el cheapo plastic abominations before I had an epiphany and replaced them all with the other style with the knob for...
  8. Gradients not printing right in Flexi???

A couple of settings. Make the gradient CMYK, not RGB. A gradient is one of the few, perhaps the only, times you want to deal in CMYK. Next make sure the Smooth Blends setting in the Rip and Print and/or the printer's job properties is set to either 'Enhanced' or 'Super'. Anything but the...
  9. Q100 (Graphtec) Flexi and going past reg marks??

Sheets are sheets, front and rear do not apply. How much smaller? In both X and Y or just X? [X being the media feed direction] If the difference is large and/or the same in both directions I would suspect that some scale setting somewhere has been diddled. It's not clear where. On the...
  10. Which Graphtecs for new shop and mobile?

At the velocities where you should be operating they're both the same speed.
  11. My falcon outdoor jr will not print black.

Well, if the truth be known I've thrown away more code than you've ever written. HP Labs ever ask you to come and write code for them?
  12. fluid mask

Careful with satellite internet providers. Some only provide a high speed downlink and you still have to dial-up for uplink. I have Wildblue service. A bit pricey but you get high speed in both directions. What with the 24" Wildblue dish and a pair of 18" Dish Network dishes, it looks like...
  13. My falcon outdoor jr will not print black.

While it may have nudged your apparently delicate sensibilities, it was likely the best advice you've received to date.
  14. My falcon outdoor jr will not print black.

Clearly? Clearly you are wrong. Did you come by this revelation because the original poster reported that bitmaps print black? If so, the black on a bitmap is mostly CMY, damn little, if any, K. The larger principle is that hardware wears out and breaks. Software is pretty much incapable of...
  15. Q100 (Graphtec) Flexi and going past reg marks??

This is quite common. What fix level is your Flexi 7.6? You want V2. I assume the patch level in your plotter's firmware is current. At the time of Flexi 7.6V2 there was a fix that enlarged the registration mark scan area. The problem still exists but was mitigated by this fix. Actually there...
  16. Intellectual Property and Signs 101

Easy there monkey-spank. I never offered an opinion on the morality of this or that, only that the concept of intellectual property to which you so desperately cling is bankrupt in that it is not inherently enforceable. Worse, it's not enforceable at all. Inherently enforceable merely means...
  17. Your favourite Signfonts font?

If I were doing grocery store window banners I might have a use for some of them. But I'm not and I don't. If I were looking for a nice script I might opt for his Valentino.
  18. Intellectual Property and Signs 101

You keep believing that. The notion is to keep control and wring every possible cent out of something for as long as possible. Altruistic nonsense notwithstanding, regardless of motive, humanitarian or venal, the point is that the model functions only when the means of reproduction and...
  19. Intellectual Property and Signs 101

The current concept of intellectual property, whatever that might mean to you, is a clumsy unworkable scheme left over from an era when the means of production and reproduction was the sole province of the creators of the work. The system evolved not because it was a Good Thing, but because you...
  20. Dry install

It has nothing whatsoever to do with what color of squeegee you choose, whether or not you opt for application fluid, where you choose to hinge something, the phase of the moon, or any other damn thing but your technique. Applying vinyl is nothing but technique. If you have the technique you...
