  1. 1624 Head Replacement

If you haven't tried already, you should replace the dampers and then just double check that the maintenance station is sucking ink through the head or just air. Those two things would cause a channel to drop out. Probably need to do a little more troubleshooting before going to a head...
  2. Question Head soak siphoned out my ink

Exactly. You can also crimp the cap tubes and that will prevent the siphon from happening but in my experience anything over 45 minutes to an hour is overkill for a head soak. If that doesn't break free the clogs, going long doesn't usually help much.
  3. Are you noticing vendors going direct?

If you are talking about a vinyl/printer dealer, I agree, they shouldn't be competing with their customers. It's unethical because as a dealer you get wholesale pricing so you automatically have a price advantage. If that's the case, you need a new dealer. If it's a wholesale trade printer...
  4. Unclearable pinch roll errors SP-540v

This is a common problem and it's the cut tool carriage cable. In very rare cases it could be the servo board but this happens all the time on the SP series and its the cable.
  5. Roland VS vs VSi

Vertical cartridges have two advantages, 1 is it takes up less space behind the printer and 2 is it allows the cartridge to empty a little better. I wouldn't sweat the difference too much as they both will work very similarly. The VSI also uses the Roland Intelligent Pass Control which is...
  6. Need Help Finecut 8 stopped working!

I normally only use it in Illustrator but usually if the buttons are grayed out it, it should allow you to click on the settings button which looks like 3 dots with 3 lines to the right. If it does let you click on that, you probably just need to reset your communication settings. If not, I have...
  7. Applying Oralite 5600 onto calendared laminate?

You could do both but if you want to save some money and only spray lam it, that could work. I'm not too knowledgeable about if spray or vinyl lam lasts longer but the spray allows you to laminate the raised reflective without leaving air gaps and also will seal the edges a little.
  8. Applying Oralite 5600 onto calendared laminate?

Sign Goddess has it right. I would just add if you wanted to protect the reflective and the print, you could spray laminate it as well.
  9. Suggestions Print Ready Art Files

When I was doing graphic design for a living I would keep absolutely everything. You never know when you are going to need something. That being said, I did archive once per year usually so my working files didn't get too cluttered. Usually that just meant sending the years worth of files to a...
  10. Roland Camjet

Definitely not. This could work but if the print side of things encounters a critical error, it will stop the whole machine from working. There is no way to fully shutdown the printing part of the machine. So if one day the print head fries from trying to fire without any ink in it for months...
  11. Roland Camjet

You could probably find the drives and get it up and running but they don't manufacture print heads or parts for that machine anymore so it's not worth anything in my view. People who owned those when they were new even had lots of issue 20 years ago. Unless you want a real headache, I would...
  12. Are they any machines that can help to produce a lot ready-to-use decals?

Hire a high school kid to weed for you after school for a couple hours. It'll cost you ~$20.
  13. Need Help Finecut 8 stopped working!

What exactly isn't working about it?
  14. Mimaki JFX500-2131 ?

There aren't a ton of JFX500s out there mostly because the price is outside a lot of shop's budget. But there are a ton of JFX200s out there which are the entry level version of that machine. As stated above, you need to run daily maintenance on them to keep them running smoothly but that is the...
  15. Roland VS 540i ink emptied

Usually this is caused by a siphon and siphons happen for a couple reasons. The number one reason is the cap top sponge swells and touches the bottom of the head. Since it's a sponge, it creates a siphon effect that starts to pull all of the ink out of the system. OEM caps normally don't do this...
  16. Need Help New Shop, New Equipment thoughts

I am just going to reiterate some of the above comments and say go with dual CMYK. Roland and Mimaki are very comparable machines but the VG series from Roland uses Richo head which cost much more money when you need to replace them. Also, since they are Richo heads, you might have a harder time...
  17. Recommendations for printer/cutter configuration

When it comes to hybrid machines Ron Swanson says it best. "Don't half a$$ 2 things. Whole a$$ 1 thing" There are great flatbeds out there and there are great roll to roll machines but not a lot of great hybrids.
  18. Anyone stop accepting credit cards?

Credit card companies have a racket going on. Charging on both sides and taking no risk whatsoever when it comes to fraud. That being said, we wouldn't be in the E commerce business without them.
  19. WOW!

My boss is always saying, "Do those guys on Signs101 ever work?!" For kicks one day we calculated how much time Gino has to spend on Signs101 per day to get to 29,000+ posts in 12 years. It's about 6 posts per day which we figured takes about an hour or so to complete. Also, I have been...
  20. Mutoh 1604 Cyan leak back

Yes it's usually the damper. If you think about it like this it makes sense: Remember when you were a kid and you would put a straw into a cup of water and the put your finger on the top of the straw and you could lift the straw out of the water and the straw would hold the water seemingly...
