  1. Looking for Opinions on sign colors

+1, get the message out "Pet Grooming", maybe with small subtext "by Dazzling Dogs" and maybe its just my thing, but rounded corners on the sign panel (for those dummies walking&texting)
  2. 2 Sided Round internally lit sign

double-sided illuminated sign? that's easy. how about adding two levels of push-thru AND stand-off face-lit/halo-lit channel letters? gonna go big, may as well go BIG! edited: idk why I don't have an illuminated picture of this, but it was pretty awesome. Food court at UW Madison, all...
  3. Having trouble getting a nice double strike print.

agreed, won't knock double-striking if the situation allows it, &alignment is a pita on larger signs. that's why i love the front/back method, as the diffusal of light between the back to front of a lexan/acrylic panel allows room for error.
  4. Having trouble getting a nice double strike print.

+1 double-LAYER, not double-strike. we gave up double-striking ink nearly a decade ago, due to muddy prints in the daytime & greasy/wet prints that didn't want to laminate properly. solution: Clear vinyl print with white trans. vinyl print overlay, or Clear print applied to face with...
  5. What's your favorite way of doing rivets? Poll

    6) volunteer to work late and get the job done before next day, and then make a game of it.....one shot of beer for every rivot.
  6. VHB Tape

5952 dont need tape along full-length. can get away with 4" tabs every 8-12" and fill the void with blobs of 100%silicone
  7. Rubber edging

ah, I thought you wanted to wrap the edge of a sign panel with rounded corners with it, like a round frame. "sign edge cap" would be what you want to search for, if 1/4"-3/4" thick panel. your typical sign materials supplier should have options for you. otherwise, if only 1/8", then...
  8. Rubber edging

+1 automotive seal edge trim might be way to go if you're looking to wrap a corner. else most "sign edge cap" is more rigid and meant to frame-in your sign. another thought would be plastic tubing from your local hardware store. run through tablesaw to cut a line through a side of the tube...
  9. Exterior Lighted SIgn Box

loaded question, and hearsay from a Canadian province to which I haven't a clue about regulation. I am generalizing UL info in the United States, to which many counties have adopted as a requirement for sign permits. Individual parts may be UL-listed, but typically the electrical sign...
  10. Exterior Lighted SIgn Box

same but different, as you're modifying existing. the sign originally produced/installed is carrying its own UL Sticker with serial#. when you simply remove ballasts & bulbs and replace with LED's, the sign is still a sign originally permitted for that location. I don't believe I've ever...
  11. Exterior Lighted SIgn Box

they can assemble & install if the city doesn't require UL for permit, which is still fairly common in most places that aren't major cities. we get sign shops coming through our door all the time asking if we'll put a UL sticker on their sign, but they're disappointed to find out that its never...
  12. Exterior Lighted SIgn Box

nope. you can't ship a box of components with UL stickers included. Shop assembling product needs to have UL Certification and place their own stickers on the sign after the finished product is verified to meet spec.
  13. Rant What's up with the premium sections being dead?

+1 to helping the site, which I was glad to do after years of enjoying this place. I gave it a year subscription, but never used it once aside from thumbing through some threads.
  14. Exterior Lighted SIgn Box

same way you do any other sign. it's still fabricated in-house, so your UL certification applies if built to proper spec.
  15. Drink Tokens

Few bars i've done this for, we decided that its cheaper/faster/easier to simply buy clay poker chips (nice feel to them, not "cheap" like plastic chips) and simply print/cut vinyl overlays for the center circular-portion. Even the cheaper print materials like ij35 hold up after indefinite...
  16. Exterior Lighted SIgn Box

if pricing is your main concern, then maybe shop someone local? Nearly half the cost of a sign cabinet, comes from getting it to your doorstep.
  17. Oversize tattoo film?

regarding "what is this stuff", its called PVA or polyvinylalcohol. which is also the stuff used for temporary tattoos to transfer the print from silicone paper to your skin. ...which the use of this and the inks that you would intend to transfer onto human skin, must be regulated/approved by...
  18. Neon length

i used CAD Tools by HotDoor, an illustrator plug in select an object or objects while in scale, and it shows you the perimeter. ezpz. i use this to estimate trim cap for channel letter projects as well.
  19. steel + waterjet = who does it?

sorry for derailing your quest for a waterjet cutter, but I'm such a nerd with it comes to neat details. I learned this originally from youtube vids & trial/error, except there's really no error aside from the mess/stink you make. Can't find our exact formula we used at the moment, but you...
  20. Clear vinyl over steel

if it's painted/clear-coated, then there should not be an issue. at that point, your vinyl is sticking to paint/poly
