Also, check for the amount of blade exposure on the blade holder. Sounds like you might have the blade sticking out too far. The blade should be barely above the cap. check your documentation for actual depth setting.

i crashed MY dodge nitro. and i LIKED that thing, too. got into a tangle with a ford expedition nearly head on at 40MPH. Totalled out, but took the impact surprisingly well. Feel safe in your trusty Nitro !!!
