In Illustrator there is the bounding box (as you call it, i dont know its real name) and there is also the page tiling box within it ... i suspect yours is hiden ... You can chek in the View menu and select "show page tiling" ... even if you have all your objects within that outside bounding...

The shop i worked at for 14 years had Gerber Graphics Advantage. When i started doing my own stuf at home i designed in Illustrator. I noticed that everytime i had shapes with both a fill color and stroke color, once i imported the art into Gerber, it would not display the stroke weight anymore...
