  3. super bowl 1/2 time maybe it's just me but the........

They should not have taken the gig. Go out when you're still on top. During the first song, I thought to myself, OMG, he's not hitting the notes. This is bad. Looked around the room and others were shaking their heads, so I knew it wasn't just me. They were an embarrasment. Truly rocked at...

  5. Thoughts about Mentoring newbies...

Education is never free. Or so they say, but consider..... If you have people in the business who are willing to share ideas, man jump on that! Take them out to lunch. Buy them a fifth. Whatever. It's so much easier today than when I began. Geez, you've got two major sign publications that...

Go back into Illy and select a few of the offending letters. Examine and compare them to the other letters. There has got to be some "properties" those letters share that the letters that cut do not. Check everything. Maybe there's a "stroke" on them, two letters over top of each other, etc...
  10. how often do you get files for print that have mistakes?

Some client's will argue for a proof... and when they get it, give it a cursory review and rubber-stamp it for go-ahead. We've had that a ton of times. Then piss and moan about errors when the job is finished. Comical!
  11. how often do you get files for print that have mistakes?

Actually I stand by my statement. I also agree with Circle that we (at the wholesale level) are not selling with enough margin to simply redo jobs. And we're not the only ones. Here's a true example. We out-source our screenprinting. (actually it's nowadays done on a Vutek 2000) I drop ship...
  12. how often do you get files for print that have mistakes?

Yeah, that's a tough one. We obviously try to inform the client if there's a glaring error that we notice prior to production. But half the time we don't see it until it's printed. This happened just the other day. When told about it the client said, "ooops, just charge us again."....and we...

  16. The costs of running a business...

Fenris, you have yourself a nice day.
  17. The costs of running a business...

Well Fenris, I guess I don't read too well. But the above quoted statement is definetly referring to writing off business expenses. As in tax write-offs. How else can we poor readers understand that statement? Say what you will, the OP makes quite a point of explaining just what his...

  19. The costs of running a business...

Could you explain to me in what other context "business deductions" is relevant? I also do happen to think it was a good post in so far as he attempted to make shop owners aware of the true costs of doing business. Enumerating many good points often overlooked in calculating overhead costs...
