To me they're an add on you can make a few extra bucks on. If you design the customer a logo it doesn't take much to lay out a business card for them with their new logo.
Hey.... I wasn't trying to cause trouble. I just thought it might be a good idea to post up what he was doing in case more seasoned sign people could suggest a better way.
The brush was a 1 inch "Royal & Langnickel" golden taklon from the local lumber store. It was $10. Didn't hold much paint. Looks like new still though. It would have gone quicker with a slightly stiffer brush I think. Those fricken ribbed bricks were a bitch to drag a line of paint across.

Thanks for all the thumbs up.
I have had my ladder jacks for 25 years at least. They are made from 2 x 6 Hemlock. The eye bolt for the chain goes all the way through the 2 x 6 and the eye is welded shut. I used to use an open hook to secure the chain in use. When I got them back from my...
Sunday was spent standing on a plank with a brush in hand. I used One Shot lettering enamel. Smells and acts just like Tremclad but has way more pigment in it. I only needed one coat. Must have used 4 or 5 ounces of paint total. Good stuff. I found it got thick in my paint tub so I had to keep...
No. Get some double thick loose gold and a gilders tip from Stonehouse. Get the one shot size where ever you get your sign stuff. The mop can be had at a drugstore. Get softest one they have. The first one I tried was too hard and scratched the gold. Get the brush to apply the size from the art...
I get my gold from Wrights of Lymm in England because it's half the price of buying gold from the US. I order 24k "double thick". Go to their website and look around for prices. The website is Stonehouse and sons. Very good gold, VERY good customer service, VERY good prices. (if you want to pay...
Yup. Get yerself a can o' One shot gold size and some 23k loose gold leaf, a gilders tip and a mop and give it go. It's easy peasy.
Don't forget your beer can pinky knife.
The method in the video is for interior use only. On a sign you would use an oil size. Basically "size" is a special kind of varnish. You paint the varnish on wherever you want the gold to stick.
Just pretend that gilding is nothing more than glueing thin sheet gold to stuff. Wait a second...
This is how I learned to cut gold leaf. http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=CJFRAMES#p/u/2/MvrClkaLsO8
The secret to gilding is preparing the item to be gilded. It must be as smooth as possible. I also found it a very slow and tedius process until I saw this video. I used to use patent gold...
Sounds like your conversion is making the corel cut line into a poly line. Buy a used copy of Corel 12 off ebay. It is a very functional version. I bet you could pick up a copy for 10 or 15 bucks.
As a bonus... it comes with a crap-load of fonts.
