I strongly doubt it would be wise to use 2 different inks. If there is any way possible to get the correct ink, by throwing a few hundred dollars at this problem.... that is what I would do. If you have the ink flushing cartridges & want to drain the entire machine, flush it & load it entirely...

512 ram sounds pretty light, although I have no reason to suspect it could be causing the issue described. If the computer has the ability to accept more ram, I would think it is an inexpensive upgrade that I would be doing in your shoes. (What does the x2 mean... two sticks of 512 ?)
