Did you convert the entire file to a bitmap or just the logo on top of the black background?
Can you post up pic of the file?
Most likely Draws transparency in the eps file is not translating correctly into AI or the printer's software.

I have X5 and AI CS5.
I think it depends on what your workflow is.
I'd say if you spend most of your time generating artwork from scratch functionality is about even and it comes down to preference. With a heavy AI background Corel is not going to feel comfortable for a long time.

If you figure 72dpi at 4x8 you are pretty close with 5178x2602.
If the image is sharp at this original size going up to 4x8 is not going to degrade it very much at all. It would depend on what the image looks like.

I think it depends on the material and what it is going on.
We did 2 horizontal panels on a 40ft bus dry without too much drama.
Main panel was 52"x40' on each side. One guy with an extra pair of hands to get it taped up in place at the start.
I wouldn't try too large of a panel dry if it was...
