  1. Rant acting before thinking

There's still plenty of work that can be done with cut vinyl. Go out and take a your "portfolio", business cards and work order/contract form. Hit all the shops that have crappy looking/old signs and offer to update them.
  2. Need supplier for a street banner

Is that a government spec? I would clarify because that type of material is hardly ever used anymore, especially outside.
  3. 2'x17' vinyl install

I'd start in the middle. Roll up the graphic from either end to the middle so you have two rolls. Tape center hinge and tape the roll of the side you aren't doing first in place. Cut the backer and start working out, unrolling the vinyl and backer as you go. It's not easy and you have to deal...
  4. Carved, gold leaf, smalt

Signtime - I don't think that would work, the smalt would be really hard to clean and the edges would be ragged. JRs- I gild slightly onto the face,I wouldn't call it an outline though. You have to leave a slight outline around the edge of the letters when apply the "glue" for the smalt. The...
  5. Carved, gold leaf, smalt

A agree Brian, and smalting with raised letters is much easier. One suggestion I heard that I want to try is to put a small "shoulder" on the bottom of dimensional letters to make smalting even simpler.
  6. Carved, gold leaf, smalt

We originally made this sign 27 years ago, it was damaged and not salvagable so we remade it. HDU carved, painted with acrylic polyurethane, gilded, smalted. PVC panels with gold leaf. Repainted posts and installed. As soon as it was carved I wish I had made the numeral smaller and a little more...
  7. Vehicle Graphics in the wild North Slope of Alaska

I'm jealous VanderJ, though I would prefer Sept/Oct. Are you doing the whole trail?
  8. Reflective Paint for Street Signs?

Yes, I did the reflective crystal thing years ago. I would probably just overlay white reflective vinyl and hand knife though.
  9. Pole Banner system

We rent one of these for street pole banners work. It's fits in a 8' pickup bed, is way cheaper than anything else and works great on downtown sidewalks, no need for traffic control or finding open parking spaces. https://triliftinc.theonlinecatalog.com/products/mobile-vertical-lift/
  10. What is the best spray gun compatible with Matthews Paints ?

We got a good quality (abt $1000) HVLP turbine sprayer set up many years ago. It has served us well, we've replaced the gun since then.
  11. Pole Banner system

Wow, that is quite the system....how much? I'd like to get some real world users feedback. First, it's only for 4"x4" tubes which limit it's application. We deal with a multitude of different kinds of poles. Second, how does it hold up in the wind? Or do you have to use only mesh banners? Third...
  12. Vehicle Graphics in the wild North Slope of Alaska

Makes our northern New England black flies look tame
  13. Edge FX Advancing Foil but not printing?

Don't know about FX but on Edge 2 that was often a communication error. Disconnecting the cable and then reconnect and make sure all other connections are good often fixed it.
  14. Type of Gold Vinyl

Good luck, hard to tell in person, much less from a photo. We have samples from several companies and also have seen hand leafed and printed versions.
  15. Pole Banner system

Like to know more about it. But it wouldn't work for most of the street pole work we do, they wouldn't want backwards lettering on one side.
  16. Suggestions Derogatory Sign Request

It's only slander,. libel or defamation if it's not true.
  17. Suggestions Derogatory Sign Request

Unless the builder was a good client I'd make it and just ask him not to say where it came from.
  18. How can we get started with making channel signs?

First find out the local/state regulations for installing electric signs and with that knowledge you can then make an informed decision.
  19. Vinyl - wood application

Sounds like a formula for failure. You could research some of the vinyls made for exterior brick/concrete applications, they may work.
  20. Suggestions Diamond Plate Vinyl

Here's a printed one I did using a fill that has an aged diamond plate look.
