Double check that the new install of VW is not defaulting to a paper profile. If VW thinks it is printing on paper, it doesn't allow you to cut.

+1 I usually run the encoder setup and calibration in the service menu first. Then I will run the environmental match before I do any print/cut alignments. Usually when I don't, the alignment will not move even if I put in a large adjustment.

What brand of ink are you using? If the head failed after 6 months, I would say you have a bad damper, bad cap top / pump, and/or bad ink. Do you see air in the ink lines? Is your ink cartridge empty and not flagging maybe?
