  1. Thoughts on this design?

Are those two guys twins or just brothers? Couple of things I see: 1. Maybe make them smile a bit more 2. Seems like their hats are too close to the text. I would move them out ever so slightly. Other than this, it looks good to me. So how's their pizza taste? Dave
  2. There goes my cutting strip!

Flame, might want to try the Ioline people. Sounds like the cutting strip on my Ioline Studio 8 is the same as you're describing. It comes in a roll. We bought enough to replace it two times. As for the comment about did it hurt the cut surface underneath, I would say yes. On the Ioline, it...
  3. Toby....my dog needs to be put down....:(

Feeling your sorrows here, too. Had to put our dog of 11 yrs down for the same reason. They found a tumor in her shoulder. Got a second opinion with more x-rays and they showed more spots on her liver, stomach and back leg. Got some pain pills for her while we made the decision. Decided we...
  4. Name Plates For Trophies and Plaques

If you're serious about getting into this business, I can hook you up with a company that sells used HP printers that last a long time. Our last one was nine years old and just bit the dust. We purchased another used one for pennys on the dollar. You will also need a cutter to cut the plates...
  5. Forward the client or outsource?

My experience with out sourcing was not too good when we first bought the shop. Since we also do awards, the previous owner was hooked up with a screen print shop. they pretended to do awards and he pretended to do screen printing. They each sold what the other made. There was a trophy display...
  6. Cut help

Understand now. Couple of things to try. 1. Take a flash light and check the encoder strip for ink residue or splash. If you find any, clean it with iso alcohol only on a lint free towel. Do not rub a try towel across it. It will scratch. 2. Use the flash light to see if the sensor has any...
  7. Cut help

I'm having a hard time following what you're saying. If you have already done the print/cut adjust and everything is good, then there should be no problem. What does "the length of the vinyl tall mean"? "Cleaned the eye of the scanner" I take this as meaning you have already cleaned the...
  8. Cut help

Many posts as to what your problems might be, but I'll try to help. Scan is left to right, feed is front to back. Some areas to check: Scan 1. Dirty encoder strip 2. Dirty sensor that reads the encoder strip 3. Print/cut calibration needs adjusted 4. Loose traverse cable (located in front of...
  9. Weeding 101 on Signs 101

If what you are making are something like 6"x6" window stickers, you weed the large stuff, than apply your application tape. Cut the decals (stickers) into sizes. Remove the image from the release liner, weed the small stuff off of the app. tape and re-apply the image to the release liner...
  10. whats with grouped objects not being sent to the rip?

Sounds like if you have any number of objects grouped, it makes them one enity. When you put the contour cut on this portion of your image, it sees it as such and only puts the cut path around the group, not each object. This is how I see it, but could be wrong. Dave
  11. Why I don't donate signs.

We donate signs to three Scrambles a year. Most are just a couple of add ons, or a new 18x24 text only sign. The deal is we get to put a team in the scramble. This works good for me since my employees golf. I would have a team in these scrambles even if I wasn't envolved. All the others are told...
  12. Cheap printed banners

We have some bars, church groups and others bring in cheapy banners they get from Coke, Pepsi, etc and want just text on them. One color, one font choice. Only used for one event and pitch them. Might want to try them. Dave
  13. bull Skull

    Sent you a pm Dave
  14. networking problem

I think you said they are all connected by cable, not wireless. Could be something as simple as one of the wires is broken at the plug. I ran all of our wiring when we got the new shop. Messed up on one of the plugs where the wire is "pushed" into it. Didn't notice one wire had broken and after...
  15. Printing 1000's of decals at one time.

We use Versa Works as our rip. It only allows for a 250 count of any object being print/cut. We make our own labels for the awards side of the business. Send one label to Versa and run the count up to 250. These labels are 1"x1.5". As Doug said, after this batch is done, we just hit the go...
  16. cut contour

I guess you're talking about the scan [left to right] Go into the menu. Scroll til you come to cut calibration. You'll now be able to print/cut the graph and adjust the machine accordingly. The steps are in the user manual. In mine it's section 4-8. Also many posts here if you do a search...
  17. Suicide - - -

This so sad for the Mother. I can not say how she feels, but I can relate. We own a car wash and some storage buildings. One Sunday morning about six years ago, I was at the car wash changing light bulbs from a ladder. On the lot pulls a pick-up truck with one guy in it. He pulls to the...
  18. decal production ideas

I know white reflective isn't actually white, but you could print the red and blue text on reflective. The ones needing a white relective background will have a retangle box and add the black text in reg. vinyl. On the reg. white vinyl print the black text and apply the blue/red reflective...
  19. Client emails that make you crazy!

After five back and forth email conversations, I tell the client they have to come to the shop and finalize the proof. If I get the " I can't make it for a couple of days" answer, I tell them we'll wait. It's amazing how much time is wasted when the customer isn't making up their own mind...
  20. I got to get out of this mood

When I get in those moods, I like to get in my truck by myself and drive. Not fast, to no where in particular, and time doesn't matter. Used to take a six pack, but those days are gone. I just drive listening to the radio or CD and let the world go away. Seems to help air out all the bad...
