  2. For you sporting types...

Son-in-law just notified me that these really do exist. I had to check it out for myself. Oh, man...I need to invent something just as cool as this. Hang around the home page for a few minutes....you'll see what I mean. https://www.bugasalt.com/ JB
  3. perfect circle on cylinder

As a former vocational trades (precision machining) instructor and tool and die maker, I spend a considerable amount of time watching current trends in manufacturing. Most notably, I've been observant about what attracts a person to a certain type of work. The stuff you're doing is certainly...

  5. perfect circle on cylinder

Majorly cool stuff, for sure. JB
  6. perfect circle on cylinder

Definitely. Looks like you're doing some pretty cool stuff. JB
  7. perfect circle on cylinder

Yep...on smaller diameters the differences will tend be less and might be better served by crunching numbers or using CAD. It all depends on the project. JB
  8. perfect circle on cylinder

Heck yes...scrap the math, assuming that you could accurately space masking tape on the tank that represents the top and the bottom of the decal. Looking squarely at the side of the tank, they'd be spaced at whatever diameter the decal measures. Then wrap a string around the tank between the...
  9. perfect circle on cylinder

Just did a test run on AutoCAD and the process works well for determining a segment length of an ellipse. It took a bit of creativity to get usable numbers because ellipses do not contain any specific data other than minor/major radii and the lengths and coordinates of vertices. JB
  10. perfect circle on cylinder

Just the same as if viewing any circular object at an angle...a wheel, a manhole cover...etc...it loses true shape and size and becomes an ellipse. I believe the main goal here is to get is as close to circular as humanly possible. JB
  11. perfect circle on cylinder

No...that is this software: https://www.esko.com/en/products/studio-18/modules For the OP's project, we're basically looking for the length of an arc....either on a circle, or on an ellipse. That length will become the new height of the OP's circle decal. What you're describing is a bit...
  12. perfect circle on cylinder

This is where AutoCAD shines....give me the true-shape cross section of your tank in a (.dxf file, if possible) and the dimension of your decal and we can go from there. Some tank manufacturers may have .dxf specs online. If you think the tank is truly elliptical (which I'm guessing is the...
  13. perfect circle on cylinder

Hard to tell, but the cross section of your tank does look like an oval. If that is the case, you're going to have to establish some sort of radius and then tweak things until you get the desired results. I would pen plot a small scale version on paper, hold it up against the tank and then...
  14. perfect circle on cylinder

We deal with this a lot when we etch round logos on mugs. You need to stretch the vertical distance and make the decal an oval. The width of your decal must remain the same, but the new height of your decal will the length of the arc when the diameter of the decal is projected against the side...
  15. Dimensional Letters Outside - Thickness/Material?

This is not typical, but we did a historic building and I only gave them one option for their 12" high letters: half-inch thick cast bronze, powder-coated black, and stud mounted. The lettering faces west and takes the brunt of the weather, including sizzling-hot temperatures in the...

Did you happen to miss the post below a couple of weeks ago? https://signs101.com/threads/brick-stone-engraving.154616/#post-1441854 Hey...that's just what I was thinking...100% permanent and legible even when the paint is long gone. JB
  17. Prepping for Installs

If you don't have a service truck, it's a no-brainer. Go out and get yourself a bunch of big Rubbermaid totes or big plastic tool boxes and equip each with tools needed for specific installs. Store them on a rack next to the door and always have them ready to go at a moment's notice. Yes...
  18. 3 d printing is anybody doing it and how are u making money

No kidding! That's where the importance and value of a public makerspace is best realized. The technology is easily democratized, quickly amortized and then utilized to its fullest. If an when a maker ever settles into a stable product line, their business revenues can (or should) be able to...
  19. 3 d printing is anybody doing it and how are u making money

Absolutely gorgeous work... I think your application is a "poster child" for the best use of 3D printing: design, iterate, repeat. I was a plastic injection moldmaker (tool & die) and started my career back in the early 80s where everything was still done by hand in most small shops (CNC was...
