  1. HP800 or Roland LG

Colorado is made for that kind of banner volume.
  2. New flatbed recommendations

Digitech printers are solid workhorse printers worth considering. We’ve been runnning them for 5 years and recently upgraded our oldest to the XLT. Production runs are up to 80 boards an hour with the auto-unloader. We don’t have the space for the unloader and usually print around 50-60 boards...
  3. Bounced Checks

What do you charge customers for bounced checks? We are updating our policy and want to make sure it's reasonable and within industry norms. Currently we collect the bank charge, but nothing for our bookkeeping costs and inconvenience costs. Is it reasonable to charge more than the bank fee...
  4. Canon Colorado 1650 FEEDBACK

We bought the all inclusive contract. It covers 2 heads a year but excludes head crashes. We have changed 2 heads in 4 years with about 600k printed
  5. Best printer for murals

We run most of our wall graphics on a Colorado 1650. Good speed and consistency.
  6. HP Latex 2700

They have one in their booth at the Printing United Expo. They weren’t printing while I was there. Hope to see it run tomorrow.
  7. Fun Situation.

When clients ask for their art we usually just send them the proof, which they previously received in an email anyway. High quality print files and vector files are production work and a completely different discussion.
  8. How long did your Colorado printhead last

Our August meter read was 465k. We haven't changed a head yet.
  9. Paint coming off the wall in big chunks

Dang, that's so low, the customer might notice if you hang a picture over it. Our installers used to strip the backers, now they only peel a few inches as they work down the wall to keep the vinyl from touching. They still run into the problem, just not as often.
  10. Can I achieve true flat matte with Latex 315?

HP Latex inks don't have much gloss of their own. We print large black decals on matte vinyl and get a nice matte finish.
  11. HP Latex 800W

Thanks for the feedback. Our 570 has been a solid printer for 5+ years, but small failures are getting more frequent - fans, power supplies, etc. Most are inexpensive repairs but being down for a couple of days waiting on parts creates bottlenecks. My interest in changing is not because...
  12. HP Latex 800W

The old stories were about printers arriving broken, parts and service not available, lots of errors and failures with a lot of downtime. I’ve also noted that HP says it’s a brand new printer and not an upgrade to the 500 series and a few post had concerns that 700/800’s don’t work as well as...
  13. HP Latex 800W

There were a lot of issues with the Latex 800 when it launched. They seemed hit and miss. It’s kept me from upgrading our 570. Can anyone share more current experiences?
  14. Workers Compensation Insurance

Our agent has been an advocate for how my staff is rated by the insurance company. I strongly agree with the suggestion for finding a good agent.
  15. A Very Organized Sign Shop

He got a lot of mileage out of a small shop. He could start a side hustle doing garage makeovers.
  16. Printable vinyl wholesale cheap directly from China - is it real?

Don’t know for sure about vinyl. When I looked at bringing in coroplast, shipping costs didn‘t make sense at less than full 40’ containers.
  17. How do you guys keep track of orders/jobs currently in your shop?

It’s way easier. (for context, we averaged 45 jobs a day YTD) When a designer is out, we open their queue to view customer changes/approvals and see due dates versus having to dig through their email and a stack of job jackets. When a printer goes down we don’t have to read through tickets to...
  18. Pre-Mask for Long Rolled Up 40C Wall Prints?

Transfer could be a good idea for long panels outdoors to reduce stretch, however at that viewing distance perfect panel alignment might not be a big issue and going back up 20' to remove transfer before the next panel can be applied will significantly increase install time. I don't typically...
  19. How do you guys keep track of orders/jobs currently in your shop?

We changed from printed job tickets in color-coded job jackets to Corebridge in 2019. In regards to the question about managing workflow, Corebridge lets you view WIP reports for each department or piece of equipment real-time to identify bottlenecks early. I can see which printers are booked...
  20. Small Sign Business Owners - You still doing ok in these times?

It’s been busy this year. July definitely slowed down for us, but it’s in line with what we expect in July.
