  1. Static Cling. STOP THIS MADNESS!

Static cling does stick ink side to the glass, but it transfers ink to the glass in a way your customer probably won't like.
  2. Need Help Need help with a calculation

I asked the same question once upon a time and I would bet money that all those giving you **** did too. There is nothing wrong with talking through potential issues before they become an expensive roll of trash.
  3. Discussion Is this vertical banding

No one's mentioned this and it's a long shot - check the encoder strip for dirt, ink and damage.
  4. Kala Laminator - Review Needed

We've had a Kala laminator for just over a year. It replaced an old Seal 64S Pro. My operators love the Kala. It's faster than the Seal, it's easier to web up, and it tracks better. We regularly runs full rolls of vinyl end to end without any tracking issues. We bought the optional slitter...
  5. Large vinyl murals on foam core advice

So basically this thread is about - "We saved money by DIY, then we bought the wrong thing and now we will ask professionals for free advice on how to fix it." Shouldn't these questions directed to the company that produced the prints?
  6. Questions to ask when buying a used UV printer?

My first question, new or used, is always - "Who will service it and how much will it cost?" Some printers can be maintained by phone support and a handy printer operator, some require a technician. Also parts have a wide range - some heads are $1k some are $10k. Make sure to consider service...
  7. short to medium runs label printer and finisher with laminate

A 5x3 gloss polypropylene label runs between .05 and .07 each and matte paper labels .025 to .04 each. Ink will run from .01 to .10 depending on the image and material. My printer is aqueous dye based ink, so the label stock is coated, which makes them a little more expensive than if we had a...
  8. short to medium runs label printer and finisher with laminate

There are a few systems in that neighborhood. We run an Afinia 801, it's fast - 500' roll in about 10 minutes. The printers is <$10k. We run pre-cut rolls, so we didn't get a finisher, but I remember them being in the $25k range. I believe Nuera Label also has a system in that range.
  9. Suggestions Add something to the edge of a carpet print

For some of the rugs around the shop we use Instabind Carpet Carpet Binding off of Amazon. (not sure if a link is permitted) It works OK with hot glue, but definitely not the solution you would get from a sewn edge.
  10. How to Print true CMYK ???

Every printer I’ve owned, from solvent to latex to UV, had a pure channel test pattern, they all call it different names. I’ve never owned a Roland, but I have to believe Roland has an on board pattern that will print pure color blocks. Not sure if this will address the need, but it should...
  11. air scrubbers

You will have to do some trial and error to make sure it doesn't have hot spots and to get the distance to print right since there isn't a heat diffuser or temp control. It's also only 36" wide, so you will need 2 of them.
  12. Food and Pharma Labels

If they are hand applying labels you can get away traditional sign supplies. If the want long runs or they want to automate application they will want labels on a roll. Also check Afinia for memjet label printers, they are a lower entry point than oki.
  13. Temp Agency

I’ve used temps from a few different agencies in Houston. A few have been good fits, most needed close supervision and guidance. If you have the right expectations and some patience the temp should be fine. Stop by for a cup of coffee if you’re around the galleria area.
  14. Where to get this square tubing frame

Aluminum extrusions would work, but an aluminum frame of comparable strength will be heavier and you need some skills to weld it. If you want aluminum extrusions both GSG and Reece Supply carry SignComp extrusion products.
  15. Where to get this square tubing frame

www.metalmarts.com and www.metalsupermarkets.com both have Texas locations and will sell pre-cut sizes.
  16. Streaking / Banding?

Bad vinyl - we've had it happen a number of times on vinyl and banner material. If it's a new roll of material then reach out to your supplier about it and ask them to replace the roll from a different lot number.
  17. Acrylic - full print application tips?

When we mount a large print - we put the panel about halfway through the laminator, line up the graphic and close the roller. Fold the graphic back over the roller and peel the backing. Cut the backing about a foot before it goes under the roller. Make a nice straight fold in the back still...
  18. How I handled a scammer on Craigslist

Scammers contact us several times a month with the shipping scam - we'll pay you extra so you can pay our courier cash when they show up. About 75% of the time they call themselves Reverend xxxxxxxx.
  19. How stressed are you?

Hard to know what they really measured in the US without knowing more about how the survey was conducted. The survey says that “Americans recall feeling stressed during much of the day in 2018.” Stress from a job and stress from not having a job are both stress. The economy creates stress in...
