  1. Question Should I Put An Edge Cap On This?

I just finished the reflective vinyl on a few MDO signs - I used Oralite 5300 on MDO, the MDO edges are caulked and received two coats of enamel before applying the vinyl. The vinyl is wrapped around the edges with an additional 1in on the backside. I tried to do my best wrapping the corners...
  2. Quotes Needed On Small Cut Vinyl

Not sure what you're looking to do, but cut vinyl that small might not stay on a substrate, depending what it is. Very little surface area for the adhesive to hold on with. When you say "cut to size", do you mean each individual shape needs to be cut out or all the shapes can be left together...
  3. What Software do you recommend?

I've been using Inkscape until I can justify spending the $ on Corel (soon...). Its free, open source, but limited so you have to be creative to get things done. Biggest downside is importing customer .eps files... it's a process. I just export to pdf and import into the cutter software.
  4. Summa OPOS tips

Thanks for the tips! Summa S160T here and I'm constantly fiddling with the menus to find all the things it can do.
  5. Simple Sign Critique - too simple?

Thank you, I couldn't put my finger on what was bothering me about the fonts, but that's the word - too casual. On the hunt for better script now. And good call on the fairgrounds thing - apparently it's one word anyway
  6. Simple Sign Critique - too simple?

Keeping things simple on this one... what do you think? Too blocky and simple? Not the right feel for a gunshow? These will be put up along the roadside. They will be painted background and cut vinyl text per customer request. The date and $ will be changed out on occasion, so I figured putting...
  7. Reflective Paint? Reflective text?

Awesome advice, much appreciated. I think pricing is hard for me because I'm pretty cheap myself (RyanT only shops at Goodwill). That makes for low pricing. I'm going to order some reflective to practice with first and figure out how to work with it. Thanks again!
  8. Reflective Paint? Reflective text?

Eight of this type. Pricing... ugh I don't know, I'm still figuring out how to price based on material costs. I understand that advice usually isn't disclosed here, but if google search "sign pricing" websites are any indication, I'm slightly high.
  9. Reflective Paint? Reflective text?

Wow, thank you for the advice. I'll skip the paint+glassbead route and go with reflective vinyl (Oralite 5300 or 5500 probably) with a poly clearcoat over everything. The dust/dirt buildup around the lettering is a good point; the clear poly should fix that. I would like to print and laminate...
  10. Reflective Paint? Reflective text?

I have a customer that would like white reflective letters on a blue/green non-reflective background. This will be for both 2ft x 4ft signs (planning on MDO substrate) and 18in x 24in yard-type signs (substrate TBD, probably alumalite?). Trick is they will be up for 4 weeks a year but they would...
  11. Suggestions Is the summa tangential plotter a better plotter? Easier weeding and workflow?

I don't have much to compare to since it's the only machine I've ever used, but I bought a used Summa S160T and regularly cut vinyl fonts down to 0.25". Now, I don't like doing fonts that small and try to avoid it for my own sanity, but I still do it. The machine is probably 6 years old and as...
  12. Stencils - How to get or make reusable paint stencils?

I have a customer who wants a couple reusable stencils for spray painting trail markings and simple spray painted tags for an event. Stencils will be used to mark trees, plywood, etc, one is 8in x 10in, the second is 2ft x 3ft and need to be reusable (so stick-on vinyl won't work). There is some...
  13. Winplot leaving out lines

A little more investigation... The missing lines are present in the pdf (which was exported from Inkscape). I believe the problem occurs when the Fill color is removed from the inside of the letters (which are paths) in Inkscape. If I export as pdf with the Fill in place, it imports fine into...
  14. Winplot leaving out lines

I've had this happen a few times and haven't been able to find a reliable workaround. I have a path design in Inkscape, export it as a pdf, load it into Winplot, and there are random lines left out. I've tried different export settings, recreating the paths from scratch, it doesn't seem to...
