Until you pop the valve and side of the damper to then fill the damper chamber of the head with ink and ruin the head, if not more ... There are proper ways of doing this but I would recommend a service tech help or perform the following... Verify ink in all cartridges - Clean or replace...

Very sorry as I read the part about this being a VP but obviously that fact did not embed very well as the VP and VPi does not have a serge sponge. It's tough to tell but it looks like the caps have a little bit of crusty ink on all colors on the black rubber edges. When were these last replaced?

Try a new cast vinyl.... that looks horrible. Also, for what it is worth, change your sheet cut blade. This will lessen the stress on your scan motor as well as reduce the amount of paper dust created and pulled towards the print head area.
