  1. Versaworks turns points into stubs

I've seen the same thing occur in illy. I'm not sure it's all versawork's fault. It might be a combination or even a postscript issue.
  2. Ripping on a MAC - what software you using?

Not any more. Epson heads of all flavors (Mimaki, Roland, Mutoh) and some cutter software too. Damn good rip.
  3. If you were to move...

I bought a vacation place in Palm Desert this summer, but moving to the US is complicated. So I'll just bust arse all spring summer and fall so I can relax in the hot tub on the deck and watch the golfers walk by when it's cold and snowy here. As far as moving, Edmonton might be a bit of a...
  4. Good color management!

Ive always used one with a UV cut filter and it's never failed me (X-Rite - DTP41UV).
  5. Media sense error

Is there anything printed in the media when you're trying to load it? I've had the media sensor in my JV33 detect the contrast on the sheet between white and the tail end of a job that was cut off and left on the media and not be able to sense the width. I've also had it occur when the media...
  6. Mimaki JV5 - Take up Reel

Adjust the clutch on the take-up reel. I imagine it must work very similar to my JV33. Look for a knob on the right side of the take up reel (home station side). I forget which way to spin it, but you only want enough tension to roll up the material. It's easy to have it set to pull too hard...
  7. JV33 Heater stops heating???

I've had that happen once or twice to me. A restart of the machine seemed to sort it out. It hasn't happened again for months now.
  8. Ripping on a MAC - what software you using?

Colorburst is what I've used in the past.
  9. Heated Solvent to Clear Printhead

A word of warning. If you somehow fry the head and you stick it back into the printer, there's an excellent chance that you'll blow your main board or at least a fuze that's soldered into it.
  10. Vector Pinstriping????

I grabbed a bunch of von dutch style pinstripes from theuglyvector.com recently. Nice work and the price was reasonable.
  11. Printing GRAYSCALE...

When I run into metamaric color shifts, I just call up the target data and create a new profile that contains more GCR and uses it earlier in the K generation curve. Black only grayscale prints look anemic and washed out. They need a color booster to get a decent D-max.
  12. Sign Shop Office Mascots

Here's my (not so) little guy Casey that hangs out and gets underfoot. He's always curious: He thinks he's a superhero sometimes: He might not be the best conversationalist but when I screw up a job and he does this, I think we all know exactly what he's saying to me:
  13. Printing GRAYSCALE...

Sounds like you need a new print supplier. If your print supplier can't print a neutral grayscale with CMY inks they shouldn't be your printer.
  14. JV33-160 banding / streaking issue

What inkset are you running? Dual CMYK, CMYKLcLm, white ink?
  15. Retractable Banner Stands!

I'm going to try out a new banner material my local supplier has. The brand name is Ferrari and the product is their 9.5 oz. Decolit BW251. The supplier claims you can print edge to edge heavy coverage with absolutely no edge curl. It's incredibly soft for a banner material, almost like a stiff...
  16. chrome vinyl

I've done it without any issues on my summa cutter. I'm not sure what kind of chrome you're using, but I haven't found anything that prints well. Even with a border left at the edge they still curl up like crazy after a few days. That was using a premium printable 5 year outdoor product from...
  17. double sided banner question.

I don't think your going to happy with any result that doesn't use a blockout material for at least one side. Not if you're holding it up to a window anyhow.
  18. Do you leave your printer on 24/7?

I'm not sure what kind of firmware your mutoh may have so this advice may not apply. My experience with solvent inkjets is limited to my JV33. With my machine you can turn it "off" and you can "shut off the power". The front panel input puts it into sleep mode or "off" where the machine...

    f'n brilliant!
