  2. Stick Family Artwork

If someone wants to give you money for it, why not do it? Stick figure art can't be done wrong, and it can't be difficult. Also, that product will not use lots of your consumables. Use a thermal or UV and print them on clear; don't even contour cut them...use a hand trimmer and cut rectangles...
  3. What Constitutes A Damaged Protective Strip?

one other note: make sure to apply lots of even pressure along the entire length of the strip when you press the new one into place. otherwise you may encounter the same problem; an uneven cutting surface with humps and valleys!
  4. What Constitutes A Damaged Protective Strip?

The question "what constitutes a damaged strip" too much pressure or blade stick-out, or just general use over time can put those grooves into the cutting strip, which is a consumable part and should be replaced based upon appearance, feel and performance. when the blade goes over those little...
  5. Printing grey scale

will you guys be in Orlando for the sign show in March? I saw your site, and could probably learn a lot from you!
  6. Printing grey scale

You are correct; it's not a rendering intent on it's own, but Black Point Compensation is a pre-standard variation of the ICC-defined Relative Colorimetric rendering intent. Some rips allow you to choose whether to employ this option or not within your profile. I just like printing!:flamey:
  7. Am I being stupid???

  8. Am I being stupid???

sorry, i'm currently using the solvent 1324
  9. Am I being stupid???

I am using DCS's 1324 solvent printer. the ink dries pretty fast, although UV is instant.
  10. PhotoTex and FC8000

photoTex is a great material as it sticks to almost anything...and actually stays where you stick it rather than falling off the wall/window or whatever else you apply it to. I have had the most luck using flatbed plotters for photoTex. Graphtec's FC2250 with a sixty degree blade works well. I...
  11. Making street and traffic signs

jd another option for printing street signs would be Summa's DC4 thermal resin printer. It's great for unattended production; holds up to 8 foils at once, and then cuts the graphics as well.
  12. Am I being stupid???

Direct Color Systems does have great support; over the phone, or by accessing your computer remotely. Their machines are also very well built and extremely accurate in regard to registration; say if you need to print additional passes on clear acrylic. DCS's rip is also very powerful, and gives...
  13. Printing grey scale

sounds like you made the file correctly. In your rip, are you able to select black point compensation as your rendering intent instead of perceptual? that would instruct your printer to use more black ink to make black shades as opposed to combining cmy to get blacks. also, depending on your...
  14. summa & CS4 help?

we use CS4 and Summa plotters. we send cut files to the plotter through Wasatch. What is your question about?
  15. Roland vs Mimaki

The Summa is my top pick, and with it's ability to read barcodes for finding cut data, it seems like the way to go: queue a whole roll's worth of jobs on the JV33 and then move the roll over to the Summa to cut the entire roll. It would be nice to send 1 command to 1 machine and 24hrs later end...
  16. Roland vs Mimaki

Roland and Mimaki print/cut I'm planning on looking at the CJV soon. Looked at the Roland, and found that some of the consumables (cutting strip) were weak. I am hoping that the CJV is more "industrial." Has anyone done any perf-cutting (kiss-cutting a contour followed by through cutting the...
