  1. Critique welcomed. Franky design.

Re-worked the art a little. I think it's at a happy place I like. Definitely needed the halftone somewhere else, and with the thinner border, it changes it. Might try to do some halftoning in the darker green later on to provide some subtlety to the design ... but if you guys have any...
  2. Critique welcomed. Franky design.

hmm, I see what you guys mean about the green outline. It still needs an outline of some form to define the edges of his monsterous self. ... but a thinner white line seems to do great. I've got to play with the other elements ... I will post an update little later today.
  3. Artwork theft and showing your portfolio on other sites

You have to expect theft when you place your work online. It's gonna happen. Not much you can do about it other than try to limit your exposure and risk. Just ask LHF and A&S about their fonts and steps they have to take in order to stop theft.
  4. Critique welcomed. Franky design.

Found some time for my own work yesterday. Pulled out the wacom and got to work on a design I could reproduce a million different ways. I'm about 2 hours in right now on the art. Would love a critique on it. Keep in mind, I'm sticking to four spot colors.
  5. shop employee question

This. I don't care how much you try, most of this falls on the person who hires and fires. If they aren't cutting it, cut them.
  6. Actual font size setting

This was the only step I needed to do. It's close enough to get me what I need before final tweaking. The create outlines destroys the editing ability (which is what I was trying to avoid) Thanks. That will save me moocho time.
  7. Actual font size setting

I will try the outline object route, seems like the way to go for general work. I ussually just do the box trick or convert to outlines, but both those are a hassle. Like I said, I'm going to chalk it up to spoiled on sign software. I just wish I could get the point manipulation of draw...
  8. Looks like it wasn't meant to be.

I dunno, I do a lot of freelancing and spend a good portion of time placing bids on sites when it's late at night and I'm trying to crank through shows like Supernatural on Netflix (8 seasons w/ 22 episodes each season... youch). I almost never do a competition unless it's a sealed competition...
  9. Actual font size setting

I'm going to call it spoiled because of flexi ... but how do I make illustrator show the actual height of the typeface that doesn't require me to convert to curves? I've put up with this since cs2 ... can't stand it anymore. Am I just missing a setting or option that is eluding me and no one...
  10. Low Res Logos from Customers -- To recreate or not....that is the question...

See, I normally have 15 minutes of design time built into all my pricing so I don't have to worry about the $100 banner guys not wanting to pay for art. I will show them a 15 minute design as opposed to trying to get people to pay an art fee. Some go for it, some don't. If they don't, I print...
  11. And that's why people don't like the cloud.....

That is the same with all the pay to play games. Even World of Warcraft this happens. Occasionally my buddies who are hard core gamers want me to WoW with them and they play on https://www.molten-wow.com/ ... they even have it so you don't have to buy the software on there, just download and go.
  12. Low Res Logos from Customers -- To recreate or not....that is the question...

This. +1. Customers that do that, don't care to begin with as long as it's readable. Print and move on if they don't want to crack open the pocket book for a $50 art fee on a $500 sign.
  13. Lettering Library

Oh wow! I actually have like 5 of these! good to see someone trying to actually keep the older stuff around some way.
  14. What material for an ice chest logo?

most of those plastic bins and containers have a percentage of teflon in them to help things not stick to them .... between that, the high tooth to the texture and the high oil content ... good luck. Someone showed something like this a while ago http://youtu.be/DbMiC8u7P_Y for Yeti coolers...
  15. Best software for drawing golf holes

What you are doing here is more than adequate, and probably the best way possible. Cad software can help, but doesn't give you what you need in the end and vector software at it's best is an art tool, not an engineering tool. About the only way to make it appear more realistic that can be...
  16. Bumper Sticker Vinyl Question

Bumper stickers shouldn't need to be anything special by thickness. Just print, lam if you want and get it gone. Heck, this is something that even with shop minimums should almost be not worth it in small runs and can get a screen printed sticker (even die cut) on vinyl in large runs for the...
  17. Today I sold out my design morals for a hunk of cash.

    Very true. Very, very true.
  18. Today I sold out my design morals for a hunk of cash.

So ... a customer came to me today wanting some graphics done ... horrible horrible art. The kicker, he wanted it exact. So I did my normal ... "if we redesign it from scratch it will be x, if I make that one exactly the same again it will be 3 times x .." he chose the 3 times x price and...
  19. Customer supplying tons of copy

Man, you asked the mother of all time vampire questions ... OCR scanning will get it done the fastest ... but with mixed results based on the quality of the pages ... I mean where do S's and 5's begin and end on 10 point printing? throw some text up in what the font and see what comes out ...
