32 and 34 already sound pretty low to me. I run quite a bit hotter than that. What do your test prints look like? Do you have many deflections/missing lines?

Did you flush the ink lines, dampers and heads when you switched from "non-original" to "original" inks?

That could be signs of ink starvation due to bad dampers, pump, heads, etc. I've also seen that effect (especially in light blues and greens) due to too much heat. At what pre- and print heats are you running?

Because it sounds like that method is causing issues for the OP. Sometimes Flexi will hang up when applying a contour cut to a complex image. Outlining the objects and then applying a contour cut is a workaround for that issue. Perhaps I misunderstood the original query.

I would recommend taking one of these graphics and creating a .125" transparent outline around it. Group the outline and the graphic together. Go to Effects>Contour Cut and add a contour cut of zero to this grouped graphic and outline. Step and repeat the resulting contour cut graphic as...

I've also used this method to perform an overnight nozzle wash on a stubborn deflected head.

If you export your vector art from Flexi as an .eps, you can open it in Flexi (or Place it into an existing PS document) without having to remove the background.

We disabled the cover mechanism on day one. However, I do close it once the media has advanced past the platen--especially if it's gonna be a long run.

This thread makes me smile. It's nice to know others have to deal with these "professionals", too.

Pat, I can't knock the Rolands as I've never operated one. However, I can tell you that our Mimaki JV3 has been a workhorse for several years now and that I am extremely satisfied with the quality of both the printer and the output.

Do you have any particular questions? It may be easier to help you with tips and tricks if you had something particular in mind.

It sounds to me like you are using CMYK swatches but your gradient mode is set to RGB. Have you checked that?
