  1. Gradients not printing right in Flexi???

That's the first thing I'd check.
  2. Mimaki Problem

Sorry, I've never heard of that one. Keep us updated when you find something out, though. Have you tried the Mimaki Yahoo Group?
  3. Keming

    I agree, George Kem.
  4. Keming

Ironic Sans has coined a new term: Keming: the result of improper kerning. I love it. Here's the link: http://www.ironicsans.com/2008/02/idea_a_new_typography_term.html
  5. Photoshop running slow

72 ppi will be more than sufficient resolution for the viewing distance. I would strongly consider designing this in a vector based application. Are there effects you're using that can't be duplicated in vector format?
  6. Mimaki Is Banding, Bad Test Cleans

Imminent Death, what's your daily cleaning routine? I have a feeling you're not mainting your printer properly. Shoot me a PM if you're interested in what I suggest cleaning wise.
  7. I got a file that needs converted to curves

I've said it before: This is the Signs101 2007 Tip of the Year. I use this all the time now and have passed it on to other folks, also. Anyone second my nomination? EDIT: Oops! Make that '06 Tip of the Year.
  8. Can You..in Flexi..

In Flexi, place the vector text directly over the bevelled tif. Select the vector text and move it to the top layer (Shift+Page Up). Select both tiff and vector . Go to arrange>mask. Then, apply the contour cut. I'm pretty sure that's right, although I don't have Flexi in front of me.
  9. Can You..in Flexi..

Design the text to be bevelled in Flexi. Export the text as an .eps. Open the .eps in Photoshop. Add bevel/effects. Flatten and save as a tif. Import the tif into Flexi. Mask the imported tif using the original text as the vector outline. Add contour cut.
  10. Need help opening an Autocad file

I have the file. Thanks for the help, fellas.:U Rock:
  11. Need help opening an Autocad file

I have an Autocad file that is of too new a version for Flexi to parse. Will anyone convert this to a pdf, eps, etc for me?
  12. Flexi color problem!

Have you tried to Eyedrop each shade? In order to use a color in a gradient, it has to first be added to your swatch table. So, you likely have the individual blues in your swatch table. In a pinch, you could print out a sample of the gradient and match each color to a Pantone color.
  13. gradients

You can apply a gradient to a vector shape by selecting it from your pallete. Flexi is not a very sophisticated raster image editor.
  14. Is it possible to use X3 to print and cut?

Do you have any experience with Pjannto? Do you know anyone who has used it? It looks like a pretty sophisticated RIP. Any info for us?
  15. If out of ink, can you bypass it?

That Photoshop mix sounds wacky to me. I use 25/25/25/100 for a really rich, nice black.
  16. flexi vs. illustrator?

I use both programs daily. Illustrator doesn't have a RIP, though. But you can use Versaworks I assume. I do the majority of my vector editing/design in Flexi. We also cut vinyl and RIP/Print through Flexi. I use Illy mainly for file conversion, etc. If you already have Illustrator and a...
  17. banner printing problem

Yep, looks like contaminated material. I've had banner material that had random handprints, etc throughout the roll---not just at the beginning. And defects will be more evident in light colors and greys due to less coverage. Now, I'm using a different printer (Mimaki JV3) and different inks...
  18. Flexi export to print question

Yes, you can export Flexi files as jpgs (make sure you have the "suppress options" box unchecked and specify 300 ppi). To what type of printer are you exporting? Large format? Desktop?
  19. PDF files

No problem, but Vector Doctor deserves the credit. I nominate that pdf tip as "Signs 101 Tip of the Year" as I use it almost daily for file conversion.
  20. PDF files

What version of Illustrator are you using? Have you tried to "place" the pdf into Illustrator? Vector Doctor posted a fantastic method for this that will allow you to keep the text as vectors (although not editable text). Here's the link...
