  1. Fook Hing Wong

Here in the midwest there's virtually no pronounced difference between con and caun. Just the slightest difference. There's a big study going on about North American Dialects coordinated at Yale if anyone feels like participating. http://www.visualthesaurus.com/cm/blogexcerpts/2330/...
  2. Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500

For people who don't want to scan things themselves there's also shoeboxed.com. You just send them all your stuff and they scan and ocr everything. Low cost, reputable company that's been around a while and has a lot of industry trust. Also interacts nicely with other products you may be using...
  3. HP Printhead problem

See if you get any improvement after an automatic head align. Shot in the dark
  4. Say goodby to QR codes..this is slick

There are actually Nintendo 3DS games that use basically the same tech. It's all cool stuff but I'm still not sure consumers will use it and it's out of reach for most small businesses. Think of how much it costs to hire a motion+interactive agency already...
  5. Suggestions For My Band Website?

I'd recommend you build a site at http://squarespace.com There's a free trial, use it for two weeks and if it doesn't do what you want, don't buy the site--no harm no foul. Much better than building something out in flash that people can't access on their phones while at a concert or whatever.
  6. thank God for backing up the back ups!

A significant HD parts manufacturer (read arm) was offshoring all it's operations which were then wiped out by the south sea flooding, what, a year ago now? Just one small example of the types of things causing the industry to basically fall apart. Buy SSDs.
  7. Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500

Discover has the same type of deal on most their cards. Never get store warranty, biggest ripoff in retail.
  8. paypal tax reminder

visual800 the number of times you've admitted to skirting the IRS on these forums is hilarious and sad. I have dinner sometimes with a former special agent for the IRS (computer forensics) and they're quite good at their jobs. I'd tone it down, or better yet, pay your taxes. You lose all...
  9. Lets go giants!!!!!

Giants got in on turnovers defeating the two teams that gave away the ball the least in the regular season, pretty crazy. Completely do not like that it's a rehash of a SB we just had but I'll root NFC over AFC any time. Was hoping for 49ers after GB was eliminated as then it would have been 10...
  10. Purchase orders from schools

News flash most teachers and professionals in similar jobs who have not worked in an environment that required purchasing or sales may not have encountered the P.O. / Invoice system before, be nice and explain it = get paid. Don't assume people are dumb just because they haven't had the...
  11. KISS Web Development

Headway can be a great solution and I'm a massive WordPress fanatic but for a situation like this I'd probably recommend http://squarespace.com
  12. Alcatraz?

You're right, it was pretty great. Cheesy in good ways. Just the first season, that's all that's on Netflix so far. And I completely agree that they got it right.
  13. wix.com for website building

If you like wix you should be using squarespace.com instead. Much more compliant sites, better vendor, usable on any device (no flash crap), etc. Plus they look way, way better.
  14. Making use of my signicades, while business is slow.

We made a "temporary" puppy gate out of 10mil coro at work...that was three years ago, it's still up. Surprisingly effective gate. Slice one side and you have a hinge! Add a tab and some velcro and you have a latch! The fort is cute.
  15. What, exactly, makes sign people qualified to design anything?

Great post Dan, passion is key. Working a job that you aren't passionate about is such a depressing concept, but people do it all the time for various reasons. It's too bad, you only get the one life. Your passion shows in your work no matter the industry.
  16. Looking for old threads about Artwork Theft

I agree with the later point but unless IP rights are specifically transferred he didn't actually give them any rights of modification, reproduction or distribution so he still has (tiny) legal legs to stand on.
  17. Looking for old threads about Artwork Theft

Great post Joe, though we email artwork all the time--only it's low resolution with watermarks and I have the PDF profile set up to completely flatten and down sample everything. JPG is even better but a lot of our clients like to be able to zoom in on stuff so we typically use PDF. Every other...
  18. What, exactly, makes sign people qualified to design anything?

The difference being a good designer has processes to prevent blanks and when they occur has systems in place to generate ideas anyway, and if all else fails, won't let subpar work go out the door. Processes and systematic approaches to design problems is one of the things that defines...
  19. What, exactly, makes sign people qualified to design anything?

So you'd rather they valued it on the subjective value of aesthetics rather than objective values such as the established market pricing for work by a specific person and the provenance of the work in question? Laying aside that you're disregarding entirely art historical progression aren't you...
