  1. Golf school logo

Something about the angle the ball is coming off the shot at doesn't seem correct, and the text looks crowded. Changes helped though. Honestly I'm not sure I would even include the golf ball and motion gradient, no reason the logo has to be quite so literal.
  2. Gerber Announces Discontinuation of all Flatbed Printers

Anyone have a link to the PR statement for confirmation?
  3. my new site what you think

No idea what the site is for but it doesn't matter since it took so long to load. If a site takes that long I'm gone. You need to speed optimize and consider a hosting change.
  4. Graphic Styles

Use graphic styles all the time. Come up with an effect I like: save it out as a style for future use. Need to modify a job I did in the past with new type or whatever? Bring up the style instead of trying to remember all the steps I took years ago to make the effect. Etc. Do the same thing in...
  5. Always back up

Have fun recovering an encrypted external once you get the click of death. A NAS with at least RAID 1 is a much better solution for onsite. Online backup solutions aren't shared hosting which is what I assume you're referring to with the "same node as idiot" line of argument. Backup companies...
  6. 6' x 8' Banner

Outsource it to someone who can print it without a seam.
  7. Always back up

Hell of a lot easier to walk into your house and steal your USB external than to crack 128bit+ AES encryption in a datacenter with 24 hr security and biometric security measures. Cloud concerns are over rated, just be sure to deal with reputable companies and it's a lot more secure than anything...

  9. Always back up

Carbonite's good, I found Backblaze to be cheaper in a business environment. $50/year per computer unlimited vs. paying for bulk GB, which is pricey if you're like me and work on extremely huge files. Carbonite Pro would be hundreds/month.
  10. External HD ticking and computers won't recongize it

Yep freezer is last ditch, your drive is dead after that. I earned my college beer money recovering HDs. Here's why you can move a running laptop: laptops have sensors in them that detect movement, when they detect it they pause any scheduled read/writes to the HD to prevent a head crash. On...
  11. Always back up

In my opinion if you don't have offsite backup you don't have backup. Big fan of http://www.backblaze.com/.
  12. box truck

3951RA with 290G lam. Never use calendared for vehicles, not worth it.
  13. What every Epson GS6000 Owner Should Know

Could probably just restart the spool service in Windows, that's often the true culprit. Restart is just easier to tell people. "Hello this is IT, have you tried turning it off and on again?"
  14. Latex vs epson 6k

I'm not sure I'll be able to get over how ugly it is ;). I've only had a couple hours with it but it seems like you have to load every job into the library like area before you can send it through the rip...kind of ungainly. Also doesn't seem to preview tifs correctly on a consistent basis...
  15. Latex vs epson 6k

Really? I've been testing Caldera as a virtualbox demo and it seems ultra-clumbsy compared to x10, which we run now with very few problems. The Caldera UI is absolutely terrible and there tend to be more steps at almost every stage. Honestly though the biggest issue is the UI and how split apart...
  16. Giclee printing... Where to begin

Keep your punch cards in your pants, old man.
  17. Shop colors

If it's an area where you'll be doing any sort of color management work (design, prepress, production) stick to flat white or a neutral grey. Non-gloss, reflections on monitors are a good way to create eye strain. If it's not, have fun...pull something out of your company branding. Make it fit...
  18. Giclee printing... Where to begin

That's a relative statement, some museums are ditching their Cruse scanners and going back to their BetterLight setups. All sorts of issues with color, softness, etc. Of course here we're discussing commercial situations, not museums, but the point remains--they aren't an "industry killer" like...
  19. Industry Topic................

Photography of art is exceptionally tricky. You have three layers: 1) The Rights of the Artist (including the always tricky rights of attribution and integrity) 2) The Rights of the Copyright Holder (sometimes the owner of the work, not always, depends on contracts) 3) The Rights of the...
