  1. Video card questions

Just a note on a question in the OP that went unanswered: HDMI is just DVI with an audio channel and a secured content mechanism. There's no visual quality difference, it's the same.
  2. Hear the news......................... ??

Just finish your own, it's not hard...
  3. budget for buying fonts

Spot on. Bulk up when you can, buy for specific jobs when needed and charge the client. If you want a huge library of quality fonts there's the Adobe Font Folio collection (at a hefty price), if you're looking for fonts that are sign industry specific hit up A&S and letterheadfonts.
  4. Giclee printing... Where to begin

I hope you know a lot about photography or large format scanning as well, a good giclee shop will do it's own image capture. Not to mention advanced color management techniques. Crap In Crap Out. Just wait until you get into b&w and need a dedicated machine with carbon inksets. Aqueous hands...
  5. Ipad 2 - Anyone running right out to snap this up?

Have very little use for a tablet but when my kid is a bit older I'll probably get one as they're great kid platforms. Unless the Android application development on the tablet side has caught up by then in which case I'll go Android, as I try to avoid Apple Tax.
  6. G-Klass 500 Matte Wrap

Ugly car but great wrap and graphics!
  7. Moving a Mimaki JV-3 250 sp

Make sure it's completely wrapped in plastic so no road dust gets in--other than that, not sure what else to consider. Good question.
  8. a strange way to get artwork

I get this at least five times a day. Gets really old training people who call themselves designers. Makes one think there should be something like the Bar Association or AMA for design. I really hate FAXED art. But hey, if everyone knew what they were doing, we wouldn't get to stick art...
  9. Color issue going from RGB to CMYK.

Almost the entire image is out of gamut for CMYK. Open it up in Photoshop, go to View->Gamut Warning and look for yourself. Or mouse over an area with the Info window up and notice all the ! marks on the CMYK side of the window (out of gamut). You're not going to hit those colors with CMYK...
  10. Does your artwork fee mean you hand ownership to customer?

He retains the rights to his architectural drawings/designs and could sell them for profit if he wanted to, whereas you could not unless you were transfered the rights as part of the contract (to guarantee that no one else ends up with a copy of your building down the line). Point invalidated...
  11. customer did not spell check his proof

Even the smallest jobs should have a simple signoff, it's not hard and it's standard throughout the print industry. Sign shops just seem to have weird blind spots about some of these things, see all the discussions about copyright, art ownership, charging for design...a lot of reinventing the...
  12. customer did not spell check his proof

What does having a degree in fine arts have to do with spelling? There's a reason marketing departments and agencies have copy editors...
  13. How do I find out what kind of RAM I need to buy?

Swap aka scratch aka pagefile (HD space used as temporary storage by the OS).
  14. Does your artwork fee mean you hand ownership to customer?

Even if you hand someone the production files it doesn't mean the rights have actually transfered. In order to transfer rights it needs to be in writing to that end.
  15. static cling issue

Most likely the PVC, we've had white cling with full coverage in high-sun areas on glass for quite a while and it comes off clean.
  16. Strong odors from printers

And yes you should be worried, 10 years is a long time to be breathing that many VOCs. We vent but I noticed my health take a dip after 3 months around solvent printers, they're nasty beasts.
  17. Saving as AI

The Corel gradients to bitmaps is wretched and the source of much frustration. Flexi often does the same thing. Easy tools aren't always the best tools. :frustrated:
  18. customer did not spell check his proof

The short of it is someone has to take responsibility, by having a customer literally sign off on a proof it puts the responsibility in their hands, after that point you can be nice and cut a small discount on a re-run if it will buy some goodwill but it's their responsibility. This has been...
  19. Great trade show marketing

Sometimes you take risks with marketing, this is a pretty smart idea. It's at a tradeshow, not out in public, lawsuit risk is pretty minimal.
  20. customer did not spell check his proof

Most of these problems go away if you do a final signoff proof with an actual signature required and your terms stated, including that copy accuracy is their responsibility to check over, but that corrections will be made at no cost. If they don't catch it, you don't catch it, they sign off, and...
