  1. CET hybrid vs flatbed

We use Korographics wall material, which is a textured vinyl with cloth backing. It's significantly more durable than solvent printed wallpaper. This is actually the number one reason we went with the hybrid over the true flatbed. Custom wallpaper is a huge seller for us, and solvent printing it...
  2. CET hybrid vs flatbed

Yeah, it's weird. Part of me doesn't think it's normal, but for the life of me I can't figure out what causes it either. I have to assume it has to do with the tension on the feed reel but I've literally run through several full rolls of material trying to dial it in and I've yet to find a...
  3. CET hybrid vs flatbed

    Forgot the picture...
  4. CET hybrid vs flatbed

See the attached image, the material sort of buckles or gets wavy as it feeds up and onto the belt, and the farther along it prints the worse it gets and the less they smooth out. Like I said, I can't say 100% this is not user error as I've been too lazy to try to address it with CET, but again...
  5. CET hybrid vs flatbed

It may, may not, just depends on how warped the board is. We actually have some success with mildly warped plywood/MDO through our hybrid, but it requires a bit of babysitting.
  6. CET hybrid vs flatbed

Running small/odd stuff isn't too bad on the hybrid actually, I've had very few problems with it. We've been printing a bunch of pre-stretched canvas (gallery-wrap) prints lately on cheap-o Hobby Lobby frames and once you figure it out they stay put just fine. We've actually found on a lot of...
  7. Back in the biz!

Welcome back, congrats on the new job!!!
  8. need input for this frosted glass vinyl install

Wet application for sure, and soak the living daylights out of it. If the customer wants it right to the edge you're going to have to cut the vinyl slightly oversized and trim on site, it's tricky to do with frosted because any creases stay in the material, but it's doable. If you're...
  9. XC-540 Cuts EVERYTHING twice???

This 1000%. Don't use a stroke, for some reason, Onyx sometimes cuts the inside and outside of the stroke and not the centerline of it like it should. No idea why, but switching to a solid filled object will solve the problem every time.
  10. Resolution 2013: Kaizen

Took your advice and went to the book store last night. I'm on chapter 14 right now, very interesting. I'm curious to see how it plays out and how I can apply it to a non-widget industry like ours. Thanks for the suggestion! And BTW James Burke, thank you for this and many of your other...
  11. Posters

What quantity and size? We offer poster printing but if you're looking for thousands offset is the way to go...
  12. Trimmer ???????????????????????

To answer your original question, the Sabre cutter you are looking at is great. We have several different lengths and use them to cut lots of rigid substrates (well, soft ones like foamcore, PVC, etc). We don't care for them for trimming prints, far too cumbersome. For that you can't beat a good...
  13. Panel Saw?

We had a Safety Speed Cut. Sold it when I bought the Festool track saw. Best tool I've ever purchased. The only thing we still saw cut in our shop is plywood that we flatbed print and the Festool is much easier to get a dead accurate cut with, and it cuts the 3/4" furniture grade plywood like...
  14. Onyx Postershop on Windows 7

Yes! Go with Windows 7 64 bit and load it up on RAM and it'll run like a champ.
  15. Anyone out there a women owned business?

We are. Lots of paperwork, probably not worth it honestly unless you're a lot bigger. You get some preferential bid opportunities but often they're pretty big jobs, many times we've been too small to take on some of the work. For us it's gotten us some contracts and some worth, but I can't say...
  16. Banner Stands

Orbus. We've tried many many vendors over the years and Orbus is by far the best we have found. Excellent products and company. From their lineup if banner stands we mostly sell the Barracuda and Contender stands. And if you're interested, we use Bantex 13 oz non-curl blockout in them. Have...
  17. Fastest printer for wrap vinyls with sellable quality

Personally I second Rick's suggestion for multiple smaller machines. Yes, 1 big industrial printer is faster, but for $250k you can put in 10+ smaller RTR printers, which means reduced downtime and the flexibility to run multiple jobs or medias at once. Redundancy is efficiency, there's a lot to...
  18. Magic brand Postermax sticking

We never had good luck with Postermax either, all sorts of issues. Try Sihl Trisolv 3686, it's much much better.
  19. Mimaki or HP?

I've always been happy with the backlit output of our GS. It's nowhere near as good as anything off a lightjet but for solvent it's really pretty good. We've used Sihl and Magic backlit films, translucent self-adhesive vinyl and clear mounted to translucent substrates, all of which look very...
  20. Mimaki or HP?

As much as I love my JV33 I don't love it for backlit printing, it's not it's strong suit. And actually, as much as I hate my Epson GS6000, one thing it does do very well is backlit prints, so of those two I'd steer you to the Epson. I have no experience with the HP Z-series but I have seen...
