  1. How to explain outsourcing?

Most every shop of any size farms out some part of the production. The shop I am in now has Sheetfed, digital, roll to roll, flatbed, CNC and any other kind of finishing you can think of including installation. We still farm out a lot of stuff that is too high a volume, to pricey to finish in...
  2. Colorado or not

Interesting. What Flatbed's have used with roll to roll? I used to work in a shop that had a couple of Arizona's we would load up with 150' rolls at the end of the night and just let them run out of material. Never had any issues.
  3. Printer Recommendation Latex vs Solvent

Have to agree with what has been said. I would emphasize that local service for whatever you buy is paramount. We had a couple of Arizona flatbeds and our service tech was fantastic. The few times we had problems he was there same day. He would drop by before he went on holidays and make sure...
  4. Roll Up Banner Profile

Last shop I was at where I actually had anything to do with ordering was using this: https://www.ponygraphics.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=216_116_122_59&products_id=3973 Its thin but looks great and is dirt cheap. It used to come in 36" rolls but seems like it is only 54" now. I...
  5. Refacing polycarbonate lightbox sign - pull permits?

Just 7? So you aren't doing anything on the North shore then? West Van, Squamish, Whistler.......
  6. HP 630

We mostly printed 54" on our 800W. Switch to 60" and one roller at the right side of the printer needed to be cleaned with alcohol. Every time.
  7. Considering hiring a full-time salesperson. Any advice?

I have seen this from several vantage points. My previous shop of about 20 people had no Sales staff. What they did have was designers that know signage and estimate/quote/customer service. Its a busy place and being in a smaller city their business is a lot of word of mouth, radio advertising...
  8. Printing on frosting....

We printed on frosted all the time. Did a lot of white only patterns contour cut for office dividers. That was on an HP800 with overcoat on, no laminate.
  9. banners all types

All the time. Hoarding signage for construction sites.
  10. Wholesale discount

We used to do a "wholesale " discount with volume customers, but that kind of volume was in the hundreds of thousands per year. And that company I used to work for has serious buying power. We got some of our material at costs cheaper than local wholesalers. We give a wholesale discount here to...
  11. RIP PeeWee

After his run in with the law saw a guy with a shirt that said: "I'm pulling for PeeWee".
  12. Onyx swatches not matching output of the same value

Select job properties, then Named Colours. If you see AnnoyingCustomerYellow in the list and your name matches, your replacement colour will work. We have a rather large library and everyone here uses it.
  13. Credit Card Stolen Number, how did it happen?

My wife had a citibank card she only used for one online payment once a year. That card was hacked pretty much 4 times a year, so either citibank or the vendor had a leaky setup.
  14. HP 800w Curing module maintenance

Anybody taken the course to get the certification and do the maintenance?
  15. Shipping Boxes

We both bought boxes from a local box maker and made custom boxes. Guy I worked with wrote a program to generate a cut file for the Zund. Enter your dimensions and what kind of lid you wanted and cut and score away. We used to by 4x8 corrugated by the skid so it was pretty inexpensive. Buying...
  16. Printer/Cutter vs. Stand-alone Cutter

Have a buddy that has one of those Rolands for his business. He has it dialed in perfectly and it works great for him, plus takes up less space. Its all about what works for each business, and of course specialized tools are usually better.
  17. Canon Colorado M Series.

I expect this white to be really good. Buddy of mine works for Canon in the Netherlands. Apparently he has been on this project for a year and a half.
  18. Wondering if you might have a suggestion for static cling for unique application

Used to use something called ClingZ, but it has no backer.
  19. Question What's your equipment setup?

    Thanks for the feedback.
