  1. Need Help Cutting DiBond after flatbed printing

Exactly what I was talking about.
  2. Need Help Cutting DiBond after flatbed printing

I worked in a shop that had a multi material wall cutter. Not ridiculously expensive and did a decent job cutting Alupanel.
  3. Gassing out Eco solv printed media.

    Similar setup here
  4. How much do you pay your Graphics Guy?

Lots of places like that here. But they are the shops always looking for staff.
  5. One man shop growing pains

I have done a shop layout in the past but it was the reverse, moving from a massive facility to shoehorning a print shop into a small space. Also had to be concerned about weight as this was on the main floor above an underground parking garage. I did what you are thinking, took measurements of...
  6. Bounced Checks

That guys employees must love him.
  7. How much do you pay your Graphics Guy?

I agree. $12 an hour is the equivalent of minimum wage here. Fast food joints pay more than that.
  8. How much do you pay your Graphics Guy?

I dont think you can make any comment on wages without an idea of where you are. Big city, higher cost of living, lots of competition for jobs equals higher wages. I am in a "smaller" city and if I tried to hire someone for the equivalent of $12 an hour I would have zero takers.
  9. Discussion Slowing down or staying busy?

Very busy. Lost a wrap installer and haven't been able to find a replacement so we are turning away new clients for vehicles.
  10. Small shop looking for employee management advice

This shop I am in is a little bigger than most listed , about 20 people. All 7 designers perform multiple functions including customer interaction, estimating and quoting. Depending on what part of the business they specialize in they also help out in that area: 2 of them do all the vehicle...
  11. Inflation Versus Interest Rates

Well I am Canadian after all!
  12. Inflation Versus Interest Rates

My comments had nothing to do with work ethic. Notice I said all the young people I "work" with. They are all gainfully employed, and I couldn't give a rats ass if your hair is pink or green, if you are a card carrying member of whatever fringe party people vilify this week, if you are a visible...
  13. Inflation Versus Interest Rates

All too true. I work with a lot of younger people and they have a high level of aspiration for material things. I hear quit a bit of moaning about rent and mortgage prices, from the same people making payments on 2 brand new cars. My wife and I didn't buy a new car until we were on our 3rd...
  14. Todays school aged kids get gentle grades...

No, that blatantly untrue. Math Science and engineering make more. Liberal arts grads just aren't as bad off as perhaps the general consensus. https://www.nbcnews.com/business/business-news/hey-liberal-arts-grads-theres-hope-you-yet-salary-study-flna2d11972905
  15. Todays school aged kids get gentle grades...

The difference being you did have a plan. You wanted to be a counsellor. Not at all saying don't go to school and take psychology and history. But if your "plan" doing that is to come out of school and get a rich after taking those course, well you might need to rethink your plan.
  16. Todays school aged kids get gentle grades...

My experience with school is probably much different than most on here being from Canada. I have to disagree about generalizing Millenials as all slackers. My son, his girlfriend and his friends all seem to be working hard to get somewhere in life. No doubt I see hiring new staff includes wading...
  17. Todays school aged kids get gentle grades...

I went to school for business before I got into the print world. Every time I have applied for a management job I get it because of the piece of paper.
  18. Discussion How do you stay organized?

I have used Trello and it was really useful. In another shop we had a Google sheet as our schedule with each part a column and what has to happen. Pretty simple as you just entered the "card" and what needed to happen to the job to complete and when it was needed for. Whitehaus your shop might...
  19. HP 800w Latest Firmware update-opinions sought

Updated a while ago. Haven't had any problems. The only thing visibly different in the Subtrate Source window there is a line the says "Right Edge Position" and the distance. Didn't lose anything.
  20. Anybody use Mac?

Have to disagree with that comment. I have been in the business for 30+ years and have always worked with Macs and PC's side by side. There has always been a requirement for PC's for programs like Corel Draw. Even our PC evangelist IT guy admitted that there was way less maintenance required for...
