  1. New Flatbed Printer

A few years back we replaced an Arizona like yours with an Arizona 2260. It was significantly faster all around and had double the number of white heads of our 480 so printed white faster too.
  2. I was hired to wrap a vehicle and now they are mad at me... my blood pressure is through the roof!

Way back you used to be able to open pdf's on a mac in Colorsync (who knows why that would work) and resave them. It would remove password protection. Then someone at Apple realized that might be a problem and that ability was removed.
  3. Extend lease or buy new building?

My 2 cents is buy the building. I have seen both sides of the situation over the years and while buying is really a long term benefit, in the end you and your family will be pretty happy you made that decision. I worked for a publishing company that bought all the real estate for every office...
  4. I was hired to wrap a vehicle and now they are mad at me... my blood pressure is through the roof!

Our default is fail the job, inform the customer and let them decide what to do. From bad experiences we learned to never do any changes without the customers approval. "Your file is low rez, wrong size, whatever", you fix it, or we fix it, you pay.
  5. Using Magnetic Material Tips

We always print magnet on the flatbed, works fine. Would never consider it on a roll printer. That sounds dangerous.
  6. Washed out colors with illuminated lightboxes

Before I got here they would oversaturate a single colour print. We tested a bunch of different options and the best option was Sandwich reducing the white to 75%. Allows some of the first colour layer through but doesn't get washed out when the lights are on. Its a seriously slow process...
  7. Paper Work Orders

In this shop we have a fab shop and do sign installation, maintenance and all that. But we also do a lot of wide format stuff: We have 6 designers that also are responsible for everything from quoting to billing their own work. We have 2 car bays and do a lot of wraps as well as every kind of...
  8. Paper Work Orders

We use Squarecoil, switched over about a year ago. So far its pretty good.
  9. What would you pay? What employees are worth.

The other thing no one has mentioned is where you are. Are you in Sechelt or Courtenay where you can have competition from a larger neighboring community? Or are you remote like Prince Rupert where competition from outside is rare?
  10. Does it make sense to buy HP with this quality of support?

All the way over the bridge? Sooo far!
  11. hows the year starting off

Was a bit slow at the start of the year, steady now.
  12. My supplier will be ND Graphics but which of the following materials would you use and why?

We use the Avery here for vehicles. For flat surfaces without rivets we use IJ40.
  13. ink suppliers in Canada

We use Inx ink with our HP, with better results than OEM ink. Our local supplier is Laird, looks like that is BC only.
  14. What is happening?? (picture inside)

As balstestrat said its pushing up against the heater after it prints. You need to attach it to the take up reel or if the print is short, attach a weight on the end of a strip of banner or some other material and tape it to the middle of your material. That will weigh it down enough to stop it...
  15. Hello from Canada

I have a friend who has an older version of that Roland. Among other things he makes stickers with it, no complaints that I have heard of. And hello from Kelowna.
  16. How do you advertise / promote your business to get more business?

Sorry to hear about the radio station. Not a good way to do business. If they blow you off on a freebie why would you ever buy advertising from them?
  17. help please: Printable frosted vinyl

We recently printed Concept 790AE LT etch with white ink for office dividers for the local university. The results were excellent and we have since done something similar on a few more jobs.
  18. How do you advertise / promote your business to get more business?

At this shop we do a few of things. One is vehicle wraps. It is not the most profitable part of the business since its very competitive here, but the word of mouth from wrapped vehicles is huge for us. Another is the gratis printing we do for a local radio station. We do a bunch of stuff for...
  19. Washed out colors with illuminated lightboxes

We just did a series of tests to find the best compromise and the winning result is a sandwich print with the white at 75%. We print on an HP 800W.
  20. What's a good cleaner for Coroplast (aside from alcohol) to remove fingerprints/oils?

We had issues direct from our supplier (Grimco) so they started selling us prepacked stuff direct from the manufacturer. That and always handling with gloves took care of the issue. We also printed for a real estate agency that was really picky about the quality of their A Frame inserts so we...
