  1. Printable translucent

Yes, we have the hybrid. We actually have been printing a lot of translucent faces on it, that's a part of the reason we went with the hybrid, so we can run larger faces than the fixed bed can hold. We have one customer that we do a ton of tradeshow work for and probably once or twice a month...
  2. Printable translucent

Haha yeah that ain't gonna happen. I tried once on a 24' face and the best I could get was within 1/4". Looked fine from the ground because it was about 35' up but it was definitely blurry up close. Took us about 4 tries to get it that good too... If the customer isn't super color critical just...
  3. Printable translucent

Yes you can double strike the print and it'll look good. You won't get super accurate color during the day, it'll be on the dark side, but its passable. The vinyl itself takes two ink passes great though. For the best color I actually recommend a two layer print. Bottom layer would be...
  4. Printable translucent

It's really noticeable when you put an Oracal face and an Avery face side by side in the same cabinet. I learned there's a huge difference between the two when we had to make some faces for a large multi-panel tenant marquee a few years back. We'd always used Oracal on it but switched to Avery...
  5. Printable translucent

The 2050 is calendered and I think it's rate for 5 years. The only cast printable that I'm aware of is 3M and it's significantly more expensive, and it's still rated for 5 years, so I'd just make sure your customer has realistic lifespan expectations. I've never had it shrink any appreciable...
  6. material shop in Dayton, Ohio area?

Thanks for the kind words Tim! I owe you Jersey Mikes next time you're in town.
  7. Printable translucent

I'm partial to the Avery, as much as I'm not a big Avery fan, it takes more ink than the Oracal when double-printing it and it lights cleaner and whiter. I've found the Oracal looks a little muddy and yellowish compared to the Avery. I've been using the Avery for about 5 years and haven't had...
  8. material shop in Dayton, Ohio area?

Laird on Valley St., Meyer Plastics in Huber Heights. Grimco's Columbus branch delivers substrates to the area at least twice a week as well.
  9. Recommended books for just starting to master Photoshop?

This. Lynda.com videos are excellent for Photoshop.
  10. Outsourcing Suggestions

I'd be glad to quote it for you if you want to PM me the specs.
  11. HELP!! Moving a JV33

Just unplug it, move it and plug it back in. We've moved JV3s and JV33s across town several times and never did anything more. Run a few cleanings on it if it's unplugged more than a half-hour or so.
  12. Wifi signal boosters

Good question, was just wondering the same thing, we need to get a wifi signal about 100 yards to the other end of the building.
  13. need suggestions on a supplier

I'd use Ultraboard for this all day long, won't warp and is lightweight. PM me if you're interested and ill get you a quote.
  14. KeenCut Excalibur 5000: any opinion?

We had one for several years but hardly used it. The "pizza wheel" cutter does cut through 3mm ACM boards fairly easily but it requires a good bit of force. Honestly for cutting Dibond and the like I think a saw is just easier at the end of the day. We ended up buying a Festool TrackSaw and it...
  15. Which eco solvent is best for an office environment?

Another idea, instead of solvent or latex, what about a RTR UV printer like the new Roland or Fuji? They're significantly more money than a solvent or ecosol printer, but maybe they'd work for you? http://www.fujifilm.com/products/graphic_systems/wideformat/acuity_led_1600/...
  16. Do you have a dog in your shop?

How does the Roomba do? I've often wondered if setting a few of them loose on the production floor at night would help keep the dust and debris level down a bit, but there are a lot of obstacles back there. Good investment?
  17. Do you have a dog in your shop?

We have a Persian cat here, fortunately she doesn't shed too bad and we try to keep her in the office space and out of production as much as possible. We actually find more human hairs ruining jobs than cat hairs so I guess we're lucky. We have a bunch of swiffer-type dusters around that we...
  18. Kind of Scary!

Wow, that makes it all the more difficult. I guess at least you can all face it together as a family, I hope it's something that brings you all closer rather than drives you apart... Good luck!
  19. Do you need extraction for ss21 inks?

They'll be lucky if they don't get massive tumors or grow a third eye. OP, don't be fooled, JV33s are great printers (we have one and would buy another and another without hesitation), but they are not "eco-solvent" printers with the SS21 inkset, it is a full-solvent printer and needs to be...
