  1. Brand Spankin' New JV33

PM sent Kraig. Not sure exactly where you are in Indiana, but you can't be too terribly far from me. If you ever wanted to run over for a day on a Saturday or Sunday with some media I'd be glad to run you through the profiling process and help you write a profile or two. I'm far from an expert...
  2. Illustrator CS6: What do YOU think?

I don't see any major changes to it as far as interface or functionality, but it is significantly faster than CS5 because it's taking advantage of the 64 bit OS. By significant I mean night and day like a different program significant. At least for us. I haven't gotten it to snag or hold up one...
  3. Need Installers in Ohio, and Florida

    hahaha it's true, it's true...
  4. Brand Spankin' New JV33

Kraig, what RIP did you get? More than likely you'll want to build your own profiles with the Triangle inks, they are not going to be a dead match to OEM. I'm sure you've heard all this a thousand times, but even though profiling is time consuming and not inexpensive up front, the ROI is very...
  5. Ever have a rough day for no reason?

John, Kevin has some great advice (as does everybody else). I used to get bummed during slow periods or for seemingly no reason at all, but eventually I learned to see times like that as a blessing in disguise instead. Use that time to refocus yourself. Take some time away from the business to...
  6. Need Installers in Ohio, and Florida

Gary, I always think of Circleville as being Southeastern OH for some reason, it never dawned on me this would be semi-close to you too (or at least closer to you than to me)... Sorry, didn't mean to shun you there!
  7. Need Installers in Ohio, and Florida

That's in the Cleveland area. I'll bid it for you for sure but FYI it's a good solid 5 hour drive each way for us, literally the far opposite corner of the state from us. You might be better contacting maybe Tim (the Sign Expert) or Sean (fatcat), they're both in Columbus which is about 2 hours...
  8. Brand Spankin' New JV33

I'd go with your aftermarket inks fro the get go and screw any extended warranties. JV33s are workhorses, you probably won't need the second year anyway. And even if you do, who cares if you'r saving more than 50% on ink, that savings will more than cover any work the machine may need. FWIW we...
  9. PlastiDip....Ever used it?

Haha, yeah, I knew a guy who did his entire Mini in black, looked ridiculous to say the least...
  10. Dell doesn't allow customization anymore?

Why not just buy them as-is and add the extra RAM and video card yourself? It'll probably cost the same or less than if you bought them pre-built from Dell like that, and you'll probably end up with better components. Adding RAM and a video card is about as easy as it gets, 2-3 minutes tops.
  11. Flatbed questions

We went with the hybrid so we would be able to run roll stock as well. IN a month it's already proven to be worthwhile. Also, we print a ton of wallpaper and solvent isn't ideal for that, it scratches too easily during installation. Being able to run the wallpaper on the CET is great, we've...
  12. Flatbed questions

If you have an Epson GS6000 and hate it too then it's definitely the universe telling you to get the CET... We are very happy with it. It's our first flatbed so we don't have any real-world experience to compare it to other than demo units, but we are very happy. We've only had to call...
  13. Flatbed questions

We haven't tried and backlit prints on our CET yet so I can't speak to running them, but I have seen samples off of it from CET and they are very very nice. We ended up going with white because they were doing an ISA show special with free white ink so we figured why not... We've used it here...
  14. Flatbed questions

If you're still considering the CET you are more than welcome to make a trip to Ohio and I'll let you play around with our 500H all you want. We looks hard at the HP FB500/700 and the Oce 350 and went with CET because we were impressed with the company's philosophy. They're not in business to...
  15. CS6 and the Cloud

We upgraded to CS6 on Monday this week. For what we do I didn't see too many major changes. I will say Illustrator CS6 is considerably faster and more stable when handling files with large placed raster elements or raster effects.
  16. Humidifier

I'm looking at those now, I'd never heard that term before. What brand/model are you using? Does it allow for pretty accurate control over humidity levels or is it more on/off? We need to be able to keep the humidity at a consistent level one way or another, print quality on the flatbed is all...
  17. Humidifier

Hahaha you're welcome! Since you're wasting your day go ahead and spec one out for me since everything you just said went completely over my head... :Big Laugh I did wonder about the utility bills on a steam unit, seems like an electric one would be expensive to run. I don't think that's what...
  18. Humidifier

Yup, just talked to my HVAC guy, he's wanting to quote me a steam unit, but he said they're not cheap. I'm thinking I'd prefer to go the compressed air route but I'll wait to see what the pricing ends up. It seems like most shops I've been in that run some sort of humidification system had a...
  19. Humidifier

With the installation of our new flatbed we're learning that maintaining the proper humidity level in our print room is not only critical but also extremely difficult, particularly keeping it high enough. We need to install a humidifier that will maintain a more consistent humidity level in here...
  20. Just Got a big job

The answer to your question all depends on what you're selling these for. I tend to ride the fence on this subject, sometimes it makes more sense to outsource, other times it makes more sense to do it in house. If the numbers add up, I'll usually lean towards doing it in house. Larger volume...
