  1. Roland vs Mimaki

+1 Also, I'm a big Mimaki fan. They're tanks, they just print and print, we have two and they never skip a beat. Recently we strayed from Mimaki and added an Epson GS6000 and honestly I'm regretting the purchase every day, I should have stuck with Mimaki.
  2. Epson GS6000 media compensation

I'll try this to see if it works, but I want to say we've already tried that with no luck... jmcnicoll, no matter what we set the media compensation to in the RIP when we start printing, it inevitably needs to be adjusted partway into the print, often times multiple times. If we're running...
  3. Epson GS6000 media compensation

I've posted this before a while back, sorry for reposting it... Does anybody know how to (or even if you can) adjust the media compensation (or media feed) on the GS6000 while it is printing. We can't find how to do it and I'm sick of having to restart prints 50 times to get it dialed in...
  4. F Series

Looks like it'll be a nice piece. I wonder what the price will be when it's released. I just wish Summa would come out with an inkjet or flatbed printer, you know it'll be the greatest thing ever if/when they do.
  5. Just wanted to say thanks.....

    That's great!
  6. Printable frosted glass vinyl?

Avery Etchmark and Oracal 8510 both print great. Don't expect colors to be accurate obviously since you're printing on a translucent gray substrate, but it takes ink very well. MacTac's Frosted B-Free that rfulford mentioned also prints really well and has a bit whiter of a color to it to your...
  7. Aftermarket take up system and dryer

Is this takeup pretty universal or is it pretty specific to the Roland printers? I'm looking at it and wondering if it can be adapted to the Epson GS6000. That printer has literally the worst takeup system I've ever seen, I'd happily spend whatever cash I had to to get rid of it...
  8. Aftermarket take up system and dryer

Regarding the dryer, look into the Digi-Dry unit from BBC industries. We have one and it works great. I personally think it may be a little overpriced for what it is, but it's not terrible and it solves a major problem so for us it's worth it. Their support is top notch too. 2 years after we...
  9. Mimaki JV3 54" Good? Bad?

what kind of volume are you looking at putting through the printer mortil?
  10. Mimaki JV3 54" Good? Bad?

Yeah, we have a GS6000 and a JV33. Ink costs on the GS6000 are a bit more but surprisingly not as bad as you'd think considering it's an 8-color printer. We've only had it for a few months but my best estimate so far is in the $.30 range so not terrible. Time will tell though. It does go through...
  11. Oracal 3165RA Issue?

We've actually pretty much abandoned Oracal's print media altogether. There are better alternatives out there for less money, surprisingly often by 3M. 3651 is too soft to solvent print on and then actually be able to handle within 72 hours, 3951's adhesive is so aggressive it's nearly...
  12. Oracal 3165RA Issue?

We used to have a lot of problems with 3165RA as well. Finally we ditched it for 3M IJ35C-10 and couldn't be happier. Much more consistent and it's about $40 less per roll.
  13. Mimaki JV3 54" Good? Bad?

Personally, I'd stick with OEM, especially if you're not printing 24-7. You can get aftermarket inks that work just fine and you can get aftermarket inks that destroy your heads in no time. We print a lot but even then it's not worth the sacrifice in peace of mind so we stick with OEM.
  14. Mimaki JV3 54" Good? Bad?

Very good machine as long as you get one in good condition with no head issues. Ask to see some of your own files printed on it if possible. On our JV3 we observed print costs to be around $.20 p.s.f. on average for ink only.
  15. Exit Strategy for Sign Business

+1. In reality, the value of your business is probably only what the equipment is worth, you personally are responsible for most of it's value. When you leave, so does most of the value. If you have managers and department heads and a sales force in place that makes the place run like a well...
  16. Printing on white staic cling material?

Thanks for the kind words Doug! You can solvent print static just fine, and it sticks to the inside of the window just fine. There have been some people that raise the issue that trapping the ink between the static and the glass will "weld" the static to the glass, we've only had this happen...

  18. Gypsy Graphics...

Does this have something to do with "O" rings?
  19. Gypsy Graphics...

    I'm still confused...
