  1. Pole Banner Printing, 1 vs 2 sided

Registration back-to-back isn't hard, you just have to figure out how to do it, typically by figuring out where the origin point is on the machine and figuring out how to start both sides at the same point. Once you get the hang of it it's cake. FYI, you might want to consider getting a 25 yard...
  2. Pole Banner Printing, 1 vs 2 sided

We print hundreds of these a year on Bantex 18oz. double-sided blockout. It's perfect for these banners and it will outlast anything you could print with aqueous ink.
  3. Just a little expression of gratitude.

+1 Jon! And I'm not Canadian, eh, but Happy Thanksgiving to you anyway!
  4. What to look for in a monitor

Consider Dell's UltraSharp line, for the money they're extremely good. We've got a few of them and won't hesitate to purchase more of them when the need arises. Combine one with a great video card and an Eye 1 Display and you'll have far better color reproduction than most people will ever need...
  5. Jv33 130

Sounds high to me. A year ago April I paid $14,700 for a new 160 with a 2 yr. warranty and 4 sets of ink... That didn't include a RIP but still... If it includes Rasterlink just plan to buy a different RIP unless you can make your own profiles, there's zero support for it.
  6. best laminator on the market

AGL, in the $20-30k range depending on the model. Hands down the best no questions asked, nothing else compares. Down to earth affordable? Seal pro, $15-18k or Seal Base in the $10k range.
  7. print on matte laminate with gloss?

yup, we do it if we're too lazy to switch out to gloss vinyl. The finish of the laminate is the finish of the final print, the underlying vinyl will not affect the laminate finish at all.
  8. fire dept wouldn't put the fire out...

Someone posted this on Facebook today and it sparked an interesting debate. I'm curious what other people's opinion on this is... http://www.wpsdlocal6.com/news/local/Firefighters-watch-as-home-burns-to-the-ground-104052668.html Sorry if this should have gone under NHB politics...
  9. Air purifiers for printing environments?

Fat Cat, how big of a problem is dust? If it's significant, I'd be looking at an industrial-grade air cleaner, those residential things don't really do much. I've seen some pretty nice ones intended for wood working shops that hang from the ceiling and flow a good bit of air.
  10. Air purifiers for printing environments?

You need something with an activated charcoal filter. Finding one with a large enough capacity at a retail store is tricky, they have them but they're typically not big enough to move the volume of air you'll need to move. Look around on line for air scrubbers, you can find good prices on them...
  11. Sewing a banner Hem

We use a 5/8" gauge. It seems to work well for a 1" or 1.5" hem and also works fine for sewing pole pockets... It's not too big, not too small.
  12. Help! Mimaki JV33 - Banding problem! Please help

I had a feeling it would. The JV33 (or at least our JV33) does not like to print in 720x720. We get okay results on some media, terrible results on others. 540x1080 prints significantly better in almost every instance we try it.
  13. Agfa M2

Wow. Another shop here in our area that we work with on some projects just got an M2 also and they had a nightmare of a time getting it running. Apparently it's still not up to spec after about 3 months, they are only able to print on about half of what they were told they could. Sorry to hear...
  14. anyone know roughly what ink costs per sq. ft.?

We estimate OEM Mimaki ink at $.25-$.28 p.s.f. on average, but your average will vary depending on what you're printing most of and how much ink coverage.
  15. Roland Flatbed coming

That would be one of the dumbest things a company could do. That eliminates the ability to print on foamcore and coroplast which probably accounts for well over 50% of what would be printed on them in the first place. I wouldn't be surprised, I've seen Roland do some strange things here and...
  16. Banner Trimmers

    You mean a slitter?
  17. 3651 over rivets?????

Oh, well, it's a tossup. If you post heat the living daylights out of it it may not come back to haunt you ever, or too bad, but it may too. More than likely you'll have some issues pop up though, honestly.
  18. 3651 over rivets?????

No, don't use it, yes it'll tent and get brittle. 3651 is somewhat more forgiving than some calendered vinyls but it's still far from ideal for rivets. Even 3551 will tent on rivets.
  19. Segway company owner dies in apparent Segway accident

Wow. I shouldn't laugh, but the irony is just too much. It's like Dr. Adkins dying from a heart attack.
  20. Thanks Insignia!

Thanks Shovel! Your order should ship tomorrow FYI!
