There are many more, but one site that we use is iStockPhoto.com and there are free sites, too, like this one -- www.fordesigner.com -- but I've had security warnings about some sites like this... (could have been just temporary)...

all these pictures you're having trouble with are all from the same camera? what about pictures from other sources?

Is there an additional alpha channel ? I've seen that before -- screws things up in weird ways sometimes -- problem goes away when the channel is deleted. Are these pictures you scanned yourself, or supplied by someone?

Really, all it looks like is Times New Roman with an outline added... And the tag line is probably Arial or Helvetica...

17% grey... not kidding, actually... light to medium grey will work the best, in my opinion...

Do you have a lens effect set on your layer? (right-click on the layer then check under something like blending options -- I'm using Photoshop 7, so it might be worded differently in your version)...
