  1. Can Mimaki Print and Cut like Roland

For what it's worth, we run a Mimaki JV33 and a separate Summa S160D plotter. We run alot of decals. If you're concerned about speed, productivity and accuracy, I'd look into a similar combination. Case in point, this week we had a job to print 20,000 2"x4" decals. We ran them on 54" calendered...
  2. Falcon Outdoor I - Taste the rainbow

    Try cleaning the encoder strip
  3. 1005 Supercast Easy Apply RS

Yeah... I'm a 3M user because I'm stuck in my ways and we have a lot of customers we print for specify it, but I've honestly never first hand seen or heard of a major material failure from their wrap vinyl. Their regular cut vinyl is definitely a different story, but my understanding is their...
  4. Legal advice, somebody ripped off my design.

Wait... What??? Did I read correctly that you started the design prior to getting the deposit? If so, there's both your problem and your answer. You willingly worked for free and basically gave them the design. You may have a legal leg to stand on if your proofs or whatever showed the artwork...
  5. longest print ever?

Full rolls almost every day. Shouldn't be an issue to print a 20' run. If it is you need a new printer!
  6. Onyx Cutserver doing double cuts

eye4clr, I wondered if that would work but I never tried it. So instead of a stroked outline you just make the cut line a solid filled object of the CC spot color? No problems at all eh? Seems like a simple enough fix and it makes sense...
  7. Onyx Cutserver doing double cuts

Yup, same here. Somehow sometimes the cut contour stroke gets outlined (converted to a solid object, no stroke) when saving the file. It seems like it has something to do with the transparency presets when saving files, or at least that's my best bet. I've yet to be able to solve it though, no...
  8. Lining up (2) 4x8 Signs with Digital Print

On panels where there is a seam like that, we start by mounting the first 6-12" at the seam end first, and then work to the opposite end of the panel, that way any stretching is away from the seam and not towards it. If you get the print square with the end, you should be able to mount it any...
  9. temporary outdoor sign use lamination?

I wouldn't laminate it. You could upsell the customer on laminate but it's not necessary by any stretch of the imagination. A large portion of our work is temporary/event signage, which we never laminate and have never had a failure.
  10. Summa Sign Pro cutter D1400 issue

I'd say maybe take the cover off the head and make sure all the cables are tight. If that doesn't fix it, call Summa tech support, they are the best in the business if you've never dealt with them before. Otherwise, software maybe? Dunno if if the software you're cutting from can turn it on or...
  11. Wireless electronic message board?

I know Watchfire has a radio connectivity option, we quoted it a year or so ago for a sign, it wasn't terribly expensive at all. Actually, it makes alot of sense if you're retrofitting an existing cabinet or structure with am EMC, no need to retrench and bury the communications cable to the...
  12. Is a scanner a scanner a scanner a scanner?

I just got an Epson V500 for about $125 or so, works like a champ. Scans are more than good enough to enlarge to mural-size prints without image degredation. It's pretty fast for what it is, alot faster than my old Canon Lide scanner.
  13. mimaki jv33

?? If you mean it just won't read the media width, make sure the media is lined up straight and in the right location. There should be a sticker on the back of the machine where the media feed rollers slide around on the bars. Make sure the left roller (closest to the capping station) is lined...
  14. JV3 Bi-directional printing issue

beat me to it. PM me if you don't know how to do it, I'll walk you through it.
  15. JV3 Bi-directional printing issue

Dude that makes zero sense. Every single thing we run on our JV3 (and our JV33 for that matter) is bidirectional with the head set to thin. Somethings awry with your technician to say the least. Are you sure you don't just need to do a bidir print adjust? You do have to dial that in if you...
  16. JV3 Bi-directional printing issue

Can you post a good close-up picture of what it's doing? I doubt it's the problem but is the encoder strip clean?
  17. digital print install

Are they all window perf? If so, dry only, don't lay perf wet. If these were regular vinyl and I was installing them by myself I'd probably lay them wet, or go to an air-egress vinyl and lay dry. But perf = dry install every time.
  18. my dealer out of magenta!!!!

We had this happen too many times. A just in time inventory is risky and can cause huge headaches if someone drops the ball... Now we have a "consignment" setup in place for our ink. Our supplier stocks our shelves monthly with enough ink to last us a month (in theory). They track how much is...
  19. Box truck job

Do the banner. If you're selling a project like this you should know better than to think rigid panels screwed to the side will not work. You're asking for a lawsuit. We've done many banner track systems, when installed properly they will last 2-3 years minimum. If they need to be replaced, the...
  20. Thoughts on Orajet 3551RA for boat wrap??

Yup, I wouldn't trust a calendered product in a marine environment to hold up well. 3551 is good vinyl for calendered, it may last a season or so before you start seeing any major wear and tear, but a cast vinyl will definitely outlast it by a significant margin.
