  1. Big Banner Suggestions...

I know you said it's strung between two telephone poles, but exactly how? That will make a big difference in how the banner holds up.
  2. Foamcore vs Gatorfoam...

Good point. Gatorfoam is the most dangerous substrate known to man...
  3. Foamcore vs Gatorfoam...

I wouldn't use foamcore for anything long term. It's fine for short term one day use signs (like events or tradeshows) with the customer's understanding that it's not going to look good in a few weeks. It will warp, and it's very susceptible to damage and bent/broken corners. Gatorfoam won't...
  4. What to do with PITA client and a job that has gone south.

Reflective perf may be part of the answer, but you'll still have a problem a little bit if the light is brighter on the inside than outside. For reflective perf to work, there needs to be a light shining on the graphics, if there's not a light source, you still won't see it at night. This is...
  5. Wrinkled UltraFlex??

Hmm. I've been noticing more and more bad rolls of Ultraflexx as of late. It seems like their quality control is lacking. I'd send it back. Interestingly, we had a roll of Solvex low-tack calendered vinyl that had that exact same looking wrinkling going on through the entire roll. I don't know...
  6. White Dots appearing in prints

To me it still looks like very dirty media. It's hard to tell from the picture but I see what looks to be some dirt or gunk causing some dark spots as well.
  7. White Dots appearing in prints

It sounds like material contamination to me. Try switching media to see if it persists.
  8. Crumbling Vinyl on trailer

You might first start with some of the vinyl removal chemicals like Grog or something similar, they are supposed to "reactivate" the vinyl, or soften it and the adhesive up a bit to make it more like newer vinyl. I used it a long time ago on a job and remember it worked fairly well but I don't...
  9. See thru vinyl

it definitely helps, there's 70% surface area vs. 50%, but it won't totally solve it.
  10. See thru vinyl

Clearfocus makes a reflective window perf that is supposed to help with that, but we've yet to try it. That and try going to 70/30, it may help. Otherwise, it is what it is. The ambient light has to be brighter on the print side than on the adhesive side of the window for the perf to work right...
  11. Best way to remove 09 Silverado door letters

Seriously it's more work using fishing line than is necessary for the Silverado letters, they're small and pop right off with minimal effort using just a lil chizzler.
  12. Best way to remove 09 Silverado door letters

lil chizzler takes them right off, then a citrus adhesive remover to help scrape away any left over tape. Heat them up a little bit to help loosen the adhesive. Just pulled some off last night in fact.
  13. After almost seven years, calling it quits

Really sorry to hear Chris. Best of luck to you, don't be a stranger around here!
  14. Your opinion on large banners

I'd pass on it if all you have is 13oz, but if you insist on doing it, double-stitch the hems, sew nylon webbing in them, and add extra reinforcement in the corners. It's a tossup if it'll hold up or not, windslits will only introduce a bunch of weak points. A decent wind will rip the banner to...
  15. anyone using 3M textured wall material? (3M IJ8624)

It takes ALOT of heat, more than a typical heat gun puts out. The rollers won't melt under the high temperature, so they're sort of necessary too. The install kit is alot of dough but it's worth it, you can use the rollers on wraps as well, they're pretty useful. Plus once you have it ,you have...
  16. Do postcards work?

infoUSA. There's one downfall to this so be prepared. With the economy, alot of companies have gone out of business on the lists. InfoUSA is pretty good at keeping their lists up to date, but companies are closing left and right so there's a good chunk that have gone out of business since the...
  17. Help with color setup on JV3-160SP/Onyx

That makes sense! I could not for the life of me figure out why in the world you'd see drastic color shifts like that with that profile, it's one of the best available. I remember when we first set our original JV3-130 up we had a similar issue. Glad you got it resolved!
  18. Do postcards work?

lol, I know, but it's true too (unfortunately). For any marketing to work, especially shotgun advertising like direct mail, you've got to have a product the person wants, it has to be a good price for them to decide to buy it soon, and it needs to have a call to action, in our case it was the...
  19. Do postcards work?

Yes, if done right. Every month or quarter we run a sale/special on something. Sometimes it's posters, sometimes it's banners, right now it's pop-up banner stands. We bought a mailing list of about 500 names of ad agencies, printing companies, graphic designers, etc., and send postcards to them...
  20. Help with color setup on JV3-160SP/Onyx

Something's afoot. Have you tried a different image? Try deleting the profile and downloading it from Oracal's site and reinstalling it. Run a print again with the new profile without making any adjustments to the profile to see if it changes it. I don't think this will have that drastic...
