  1. Got this complaint....

I rarely ever use cut vinyl for my signs. I truly hate working with it. Much easier to print a sheet off a roll and mount it.
  2. jv33-160 ink error

I have the same machine. Its probably an issue with the cartridge chip. Maybe your ink has expired. I always keep extra "forever" chips on hand just in case I run into a problem like this (and I have). Once, I inadvertently ordered way to much yellow and it expired before I could use it. The...
  3. Pole Banner hardware

I get my pole banners and hardware from B2Sign.com in LA. Great prices and service.
  4. Your Opinions Needed!

I'm closing my commercial print shop at the end of the year and will become a print broker working out of my home. We've been in the same location for over 40 years but the lease it up soon and I want to "sorta" retire. I've worked hard over the past 5 years to move all print production (about...
  5. Arial

LOl...Arial! I never imagined that I have over 10,000 fonts and need a font management program to keep track of them all!
  6. Question My Bizhub ruins all papers i print. What should i do?

You're trying to push 300 gsm paper through a Bizhub AND double sided? That's your problem right there. Either run one side at a time or run lighter paper. I have a fleet of BizHubs and would never run paper that thick through them. Jobs like that get sent to a large wholesale printer at my...
  7. Color Calibration

I've never once calibrated my Mimaki in all the years I've owned it. We've never had a color complaint.
  8. Suggestions Royal Sovereign 54 uneven feed/wrinkles

We had the same issue when we first got our 54" laminator several years ago. Its critical to ensure the that vinyl to be laminated and the lamination are as even across the rollers as possible. We've perfected our technique using three pieces of masking tape but I can still get wrinkles if I'm...
  9. How to deal with clients when it comes to how pdf files view on a computer vs. actual color.

We have a disclaimer that says "proofs are not for color matching" and another than says "We calibrate our printers on a regular basis, however, we can not guarantee an exact color match under any circumstances." In 20 years, we've never had a color issue with a client.
  10. Anybody use Mac?

I've never owned any Apple products (except Apple stock!!!) and probably never will. I dislike Apple because of the high degree of control they have on everything in the Apple universe. When I started out 20 years ago, I couldn't afford an Adobe license for every workstation needed, etc. and...
  11. Passwords

I use Keeper password manager. It has a "family" feature so I can share certain passwords with my wife and apps for my PC and my Android. I've been very happy with this software for several years now.
  12. Getting paid from customer using bank ACH method

As I was taught, if someone wants to give you money, you take it! I'm happy to take almost any type of payment; ACH, checks, any credit cards, bitcoin. But cash is my favorite so I'll take USD, CDN, AUS or EUR because I have one kid in Canada, another kid in Australia and we love to travel in...
  13. Print Science ?

I have a Print Science subscription but have not completed my website yet. I've entered a lot of pricing and such and I do like the format. Its just quite time consuming entering all the data.
  14. Client refusing payment

Don't stress about it but take the steps to move the matter to Small Claims Court. You'll get your money eventually.
  15. Check fraud scam, new on me, at least this way

We build the credit card fee into every transaction. I rarely ever think about the fees anymore. Its a cost of doing business.
  16. Unrealistic requests/deadlines

I don't do planes at all. I don't want to be responsible for some vinyl coming off and going into an engine or some such thing.
  17. Early browning on laminated IJ-180c sign in southern Arizona

Here in the Caribbean, vinyl signs will start to brown and burn within a few years of installation if they're facing the sun. There's nothing that can be done to prevent it. We put a disclaimer on all estimates and invoices to that effect.
  18. Small Sign Business Owners - You still doing ok in these times?

Its still pretty busy down here in the Caribbean. Our real estate sign business is about the same as last year at this time. But, real estate in the islands doesn't suffer from the same mood swings as the mainland. Prices for homes on my island rarely ever go down. My commercial printing...
  19. Kelowna

    My brother lives in Vernon!
  20. Question When to laminate?

We laminate all printed vinyl. So, no need to wonder about what to laminate or what not to laminate.
