  1. People asking for logos...I'm getting irritated

I run into this issue from time to time being the market leader in a small community also. I would never send a competitor a vector and rarely ever even give those to the customers unless I absolutely have to. I do send a JPG that's usually just barely enough to get them by and maybe just a...
  2. Looking for reliable wholesale banner printing service

B2Sign.com in LA is my go to for banners and such. These guys are so fast and cheap its almost a miracle.
  3. Laptop or desktop?

I use a laptop from time to time when I'm working remotely. I dislike it mostly because I prefer to use a full size keyboard and a mouse but I make do when I need to. But, the thing I found most helpful was using remote login software like LogMeIn so I can utilize my desktop computer at the...
  4. Fonts - Why is it so Easy to Find Free Fonts?

As I was downloading yet another family of fonts that I was looking for, I wondered why its so easy to find free fonts. I've been a graphic designer and print and sign shop owner for 20 years and have never found a problem finding almost any font I've ever needed. To be honest, I have over...
  5. promotional items

The promotional products industry has always been distributor based and for good reason. Manufacturers don't want to have to deal with people who have no knowledge or experience in graphic design and logistics. Personally, I'm grateful for this as we make a ton of money selling promo products...
  6. Question Coro Real Estate Signs - How to Glue Two Together?

We sell 18 x 24 and 24 x 24 corrugated plastic real estate signs everyday. But, I have a client who wants 24 x 24 signs that have two pieces of coro glued together so they slide over the odd metal stakes they use. I've seen these signs but don't know what type of glue one would use to fuse them...
  7. Educating clients in what is and isn't high quality artwork.

Like everyone else in the business, we run into this all the time. We put a statement in all our estimates as follows: Prices based on receipt of properly sized, print ready art or add'l charges may apply. We charge $65 an hour with a minimum $25 for graphic design. Customers rarely ever...
  8. Question Mimaki SS21 ink issues

I stopped using Mimaki inks a while back and use STS Inks now. Never a problem anymore.
  9. Banner Wholesalers

Their turnaround is fantastic. I've never had a problem with them and pricing allows me to make a good profit. I have a big Mimaki, etc. but sometimes outsourcing a big order makes sense.
  10. Banner Wholesalers

I use B2Sign.com in LA. Very reasonable pricing and super fast turnaround. Great quality products too.
  11. Zelle scams keep popping up

My shop doesn't accept any of those fancy new payment methods. I take VISA, MasterCard, Amex, Discover, cash and checks. Our government accounts pay by direct deposit ACH. Although I have a PayPal account, we don't offer this as a form of payment. Cash is of course, my favorite.
  12. PayPal Scam

I had to send the same info to PayPal that I had to in order to open a bank account. The recent budget changed the rules for reporting transactions for all financial institutions including PayPal, AirBNB etc.
  13. How do I attach a large wooden sign to building?

I don't install signs...I just make them. I let the customer deal with that.
  14. Looking for help in deciphering this coloring code

Its a wonderful place to have a print/sign shop. The sun bakes the vinyl within 3 or 4 years and we have to replace the signs. Or, the hurricanes blow them away. Its the gift that keeps on giving.
  15. How does this laminator look? Looking to buy it for 3000$ CAD

Whoa...$5000? No way. I bought a new 54" Chinese laminator 8 years ago for $1500 and its still works like brand new.
  16. Looking for help in deciphering this coloring code

I always put a disclaimer on every quote and invoice that says: "We calibrate our printers on a regular basis, however, we can not guarantee an exact color match under any circumstances." We've never had an issue with complaints on color.
  17. Window Perf Question

Who knows what fluid or chemical could have splashed on it since the install. This is why I don't offer a warranty on vehicle or window graphics. Once it leaves the shop, I have no control over what happens to it. Just my thoughts.
  18. Odd question for time & material

I don't necessarily disagree with you because I like to do a good job. But, I don't really have the time to inspect every sentence of every job to ensure the client has spelled everything correctly. I thought this was why we make customers sign off on proofs in the first place. To shift the...
  19. Printable stock with transparent or semi transparent background suitable for Eco Solvent (S80600)

The material you're describing sounds like back-lit transparency film. Just a thought.
  20. Here's an absolute new one for me, after 51 years.............................................

Personally, I'd do absolutely nothing for him and send him on his way, with no refund either. You should tweak your contract a bit with a clause that specifies what is considered "crooked" to prevent this from happening again.
