I would use only 3M IJ8624 Graphic film for textured surfaces with the 8524 lam. To use this film you need either heated sponge rollers or a sponge roller that can handle heat.....a lot of heat! This install will be a bitch, but when it is done it will look like it was hand painted on.

Aqueous (water based printer ) can print on specialty vinyl that has been coated to receive aqueous ink. Medias are much more expensive than solvent printers, but Epson has a solvent printer now that has the print quality of the aqueous machines
I think in versaworks you can only go so far as a Linearization, to go further you need outside software such as Profilemaker by x-rite. (somone please correct me if I'm wrong)
The media is probably skewed. The evidence of this would be dark bands on one side and light bands on the other. Unload then reload the roll, feed out a significant amount by hand then rewind by hand. If the amount of banding changes that was your issue.
Banding or streaking comes in two axis. Carriage direction and Media feed direction. The causes for each are different. Carriage direction banding is caused by printhead nozzles, bad dampers and capping station malfunction. Media feed directional banding can be caused by carriage bearings...
The only benefit associated with setting up your files in RGB is that you will have a slightly larger color gamut if your ICC will allow it (media profile), on some matte materials or papers your gamut is crap anyway. Overall its a net benefit, but it will not fix banding issues.
